Well, here it is, February 2nd... Groundhog Day - the one time of the year the weather forecast is determined by a critter with more hair on its body than Willard Scott has on his head!
This winter, "global warming" has been responsible for some of the wildest weather this planet has seen in years... Snowstorms in California, usually thick blizzards in the midwest, and even tornadoes sighted in central Florida (when they aren't supposed to even show up until the Spring)! Meanwhile, my area (south Florida) has had unusually high temperatures, contributing to an ongoing drought (which is now into its third year).
It's hard to believe that it was exactly ten years ago this week that I'd drawn a one-panel gag (for the APAzine "Rowrbrazzle") about similar weather conditions in my region - when the 'Sunshine State' became anything but sunny - beginning with several tornadoes that had touched down in portions of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties...
It made me wonder if legendary weather forecaster 'Punxsutawney Phil' was down here in Florida, leaving a ringer to predict conditions back in Pennsylvania. Hence, this ten-year-old sketch of the chubby groundhog himself. Enjoy! ;)

Florida has 2 seasons....
RAIN and NOT !
At least it did when I lived there.
There are several "sub" seasons, like Crazy Tourists From The North, which a native Floridian is wareing a SWEATER AND A COAT, but folks from the NORTH are at the beach in swimsuits saying that it's HOT, when it's clearly not.
Construstion isn't a season in Florida as the weather makes it so it's YEAR ROUND long ;)
Summer isn't a season, nore is winter, nore is fall, nore is spring, Florida is pretty much one long RAIN or NOT season, hey it's nearly surrounded by water, what'd you'd expect ?
Why do old folks like to retire there, one might ask ? Because it's the one place were they'd never say "It's too cold here, turn up the heat, will ya' ?"
It's like a sauna, you go outside and you get wet even if there's not a cloud in the sky above you ! A lot of Humitity is a strange thing to people who aren't used to it.
Another "sub" season is Disney Season, all you need to witness that is go to Orlando and watch the freaks come out of the woodwork, all it costs is an "E" ticket ! *
* Only folks over 30 will get this referance / joke.

When I'd moved down to Florida (from PA, and before that NY) 14 years ago, the ground wasn't even broken yet on Disney's Animal Kingdom... Sea World was basically an aquatic nuseum with some entertainment (and no thrill rides)... and the Orange County Convention Center wasn't larger than two airports put together...
At least, that's how I remembered central FL (and specifically, Orlando), when I'd visited it during the 1990s.
Let's chat about the 'Sunshine State' some more on Instant Messenger one day.

I actually DID see a waterspout a couple of years ago... I was driving a friend to Key West on US 1, when halfway down I saw huge cumulus nimbus clouds to our east over the Atlantic Ocean, and in one lower corner, a small funnel cloud was touching down on the water. Luckily, this waterspout was several miles away, so the weather where we were wasn't affected. Still, even from this great distance away, it was an awesome sight!
No conspiracy at all, Glouton. Like the 'Santa Claus' on every street corner and department store at Christmastime, I'm sure that there's a groundhog in every rural community, just waiting to come out on February 2nd and predicting (for the paparazzi) the weather forecast for the next six weeks.
