eh, a constant topic. People think it is stupid since the idea of a fursuit really throws people off. but bring up how you can make employees on a boring or stressful day of work smile and flip the day around for them all by simply going in to buy food or chat a little. What else can make kids have pure joy when they run over to give you a hug? they have active imaginations, you give them something they imagine and you put it into a physical manifestation they can hug and be with. A show they are excited for can't even do that. Not even walking dead starting up a season.
Plus there are some amazing art and creative outlets that are found. Hell half the concept art you see from games are drawn by furries, some book series I enjoyed I discovered from the fandom.
Not many care about the porn part of it. Heck I will probobly tell a buddy that i am a furry. Course he also wouldn't care as well. couple in my school and people don't mind it. Jokes are shared on both ends, but generally people find it a fun thing since college people are super open and generally we all know if it makes you happy, do it. Because working and doing school at the same time is dreadful.
Heck the fandom teaches you to draw better than a book would, and I can attest to this personally. Not the best, but I am leagues above many in a short time than others have at the same. And compaired to me four months ago, I was barely about to draw stick figures.
Also bring up. "So me playing pretend animal is bad. But everyone playing pretend soldier doing only multiplayer on a game is not at all stupid. What memories do you remember from that when you only complain about terrible team mates or people 'stealing your kills'? That mindset is stupid. Sitting around all day drinking beer to enjoy a sport is kinda stupid. Have them defend their sides as opposed to something that just brings sheer joy to many, inspires people to learn a craft or trade skill even if it is just to have a hobby or draw their tabletop role play character. To be fair, I don't see call of duty or halo doing anything but offering competitive multiplayer.
