Yippee Coyote with "Weird" Al Yankovic, at the annual summer party SuperBall, hosted by Jim Hodgson and his brother (and MST3k founder) Joel Hodgson, August 1998.
When Cooner and I moved from Florida to Burbank in 1995, one of our first gigs was storyboard/animatic work for Joel Hodgson's personal artistic film Statical Planets. During our work, Joel found I did freelance mascot work.
SuperBall 3 was an annual event featuring entertainment from friends and associates of the Hodgsons. It was a hot evening in the San Fernando valley at their studio, and I had invited a friend from Six Flags to be my escort. As I was winding down my set, she said "Hey, that looks like Weird Al!" I said I wasn't sure, as he didn't have his trademark (at the time) glasses, and I guess he doesn't usually bug-out his eyes. We ended up snapping a photo, he bugged out his eyes. There was no mistaking him!
SnowWolf recently scanned the negative at a high resolution, and I tried adjusting the color levels, contrast and hues. I'd previously scanned a photo, which has been on Timduru's site for years.
EDIT:
skippyfoxcub was so inspired from my story that Vin sought out to meet "Weird" Al Yankovic too! Congrats foxy!
