I've given this big girl about a week of attention for building and painting up to her current point. no air brushing here, just lots of thin coats of paint to keep things even. Nearly done with the pale grey though, just the last missile pod and ion accelerator to block in then I can start detailing and putting on sept markings.
I really want to do an energy pulse on the shield and the ion accelerator, but It's hard to do on models that are so bright.

Actually white got really easy to paint
the month before Dark Vengeance came out White Dwarf ran an article on how to paint White Scar Space Marines. Admitedly I've modified the technique a little but here's what I did.
The tutorial did this:
* Prime the model with white undercoat spray
* Airbrush the model Ulthuan Grey
* wash the recesses with Devlan Mud/Agrax Earthshade (you could use any shade you want really)
* Tidy up the edges of the recesses with Ulthuan Grey
* Edge highlight with Ceramite White or White Scar
I did this:
* I used a medium Grey Primer because I wanted my recesses to darken up properly
* I did a wash of Nuln Oil/Badab Black over the model then started blocking in each panel with two thin coats of Ulthuan Grey to make the surface look clean and smooth and left the recesses black. I don't have an air brush at the moment so this is a bit time consuming.
* I'll be patching any areas I've accidentally goin over with the black wash or ulthuan grey paint.
* I'll be using Ceramite White as my edge highlight
Once I've finished with the white I'll start detailing with ochre and dark grey sept markings, blue lenses and maybe an energy shimmer (blue or yellow) on the Ion Accelerator and the Riptide Energy Shield.

I'll give you an idea how good they are. The Acrylic Paint Scale works on a 1 - 20 chart, 1 being top of the range, 20 being crap.
The old Citadel paint range used to be 7 on the scale, which isn't bad. the new Citadel paint range is rated 3-4 on the scale, So a vast improvement. From what I hear Vallejo paints are rated in the 4-5 area too, so Citadel is now ranked in the top 5 which is considered the 'pro-painters' choice of acrylics.

it's just a sheet of 3mm or 5mm cork, ripped into shape, and super glued down. once the model is undercoated (I add sand and rock effects effects first while building the model) it becomes so easy to paint. I add grass/snow/ice/crystals/etc after I've finished the model
