I've been commissioned to design a few monsters for a RPG game online (not ready yet) featuring:
1.-Bugbear - Britain – described as bear-man hybrids, they used simple
weapons and wore animal hides. Existed on a diet of naughty children,
go figure.
2.-Broosha - Spain – large black cat whose voice could induce sleep, it
then would open wounds on the sleeping and drink their blood. It could
then lick the wounds to close them, leaving the victim appearing
unharmed.
3.-Barghest - Britain – huge hairy dog/bear with flaming eyes, horns and
huge fangs. Sometimes seen dragging a chain or wearing a chain.
Usually tied to a specific location.
4.-Bogle - Belgium – Large dog like creature that was able to walk
bipedal for short periods. Had blue flames for eyes and blue smoke
oozed from its mouth. Moved faster than a horse and would kill and eat
solitary travelers. Sometimes appeared as a half-bull/man also, but
always had a white collar around its neck, regardless of how it
appeared.
5.-Troll - Norway – large, stocky, malignant and hairy with long talon
like claws. Dumb and slow, they ate humans and could recover from
terrible wounds. Tough to kill, thick skinned.
6.-Firbolg - Ireland – the original inhabitants of ireland, defeated by
humans and driven underground and deep into forests. Described as
"dark and thick" they practiced a form of magic that warped their
bodies. Started out looking mostly human, but now are dark and
deformed by magic/revenge.
