OK, I know I said I wasn't going to rush to upload all of these as soon as they were done, and I'm not... but I really like this one and am anxious to share it. This song was inspired by the fact that it was raining all day when I wrote it. Originally, the title hook was "I'll flood the world...". I considered making a nod to Peter Gabriel by starting the second verse with "Lord, here comes the flood/I wish I could say goodbye to flesh and blood". I didn't want to repeat the word "flood" so soon, though, so I changed the title lyrics to "I'll drown the world". Eventually I ended up deciding against using the Peter Gabriel lyrics because 1) it felt slightly like cheating, and 2) the band Open Hand already co-opted that part of "Here Comes The Flood" for their song "Hard Night". But I'm glad the whole thing happened, because I like "drown" much better than "flood".
Although this is my second 'finished' song for FAWM, this will probably end up as the final track on the resulting album (aside from the 'bonus' collaboration). It feels like an album-ender. I really like the lyrics, especially how they convey the intended feeling of the song without once directly referring to the protagonist's feelings. I'm not usually very good at writing like that; I tend to come right out and say what it is I'm trying to say. Even though this song only has 8 lines of lyrics, it sort of felt like some kind of breakthrough, from a songwriting standpoint.
FAWM progress: I got two songs done on February 1st. Song #3 is about 90% written, and I have the basic ideas for #4 and #5 sketched out. Who knows, I might actually be able to do this thing after all! :D
"I'll Drown The World" (2:14)

Rain, rain, why won't you go away
Don't bother coming back another day
I don't need your help, so just leave me alone
I'll drown the world on my own
A million drops are pounding on my roof
They're leaking in, as if I needed proof
But they can't match the deluge I'll create
I'll drown the world, just you wait

Heh... yeah, I don't know if you saw the journal entry on this or not, but I almost started the second verse of this with some amended lyrics from that song (by amended I mean altered, not improved). I recorded it with an 8-track (TASCAM Portastudio 488 MKII). No computer programs, as usual. Old Boss drum machine for the rhythm, main keyboards are a Yamaha PSR-16 (also old). Keyboard sound that comes in after the vocals finish is one of the MicroKorg vocoder voices, and I recorded the vocals through the vocoder mic as well.
Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad you liked it! :)

That's right, you had told me you got your paws on the 488. It's a great little unit. I think I mentioned to you that I owned one for quiet awhile, before I got my Yamaha. BTW, I'm back working days! The Paw Offs can start working one material again. Finish the old stuff and start new stuff. I'm getting a SCSI drive for the 16 trk, so we can work on multiple projects with having to make back-up cd's. I'm going to start laying down drum tracks for a couple of new tunes. I want you and Sedge to come up so we can work out keys and bass tracks. I'm taking vacation April 17th - 21st, if you want to come down and record. Let Sedge know.

Sweet, I'd love to work on some stuff! It'd be too funny if we got together on April 21st because that will be the 20-year anniversary of the recording of my first official song. That's unlikely to happen, though, 'cause it's a Monday, but that weekend would be close enough.
"Emo", huh? lol... I don't know... is something "emo" just because it's sad? Actually, one of my favorite things about this song is that it never mentions emotions or feelings at all. Ah, you know what? You +fav'd it, so you can call it "emo" if you want to LOL! Thanks very much, Silver! ^_^
