So what is Gank again?
Gank is an ongoing interactive webcomic about sky pirates that glide above a sea of toxic miasma in a land of sorcery and swashbuckling and their tendencies to get into regrettable scenarios when food becomes scarce. While it does have a guiding plot and a mystery to uncover it is largely open-ended, allowing the readers to determine which direction the story will go in and how its characters will react to the resulting events. Every new page will bring a new quandary to confront, and how wisely you make your choice will decide just how far you can venture into the dangerous airs of Areth in search of the treasure that waits for you just beyond the horizon...
Oh, so its another one of those Choose-Your-Own-Adventure things?
Well, yes and no.
Yes: Every page of Gank will present you with a series of choices that you can make, and whichever one the majority of the audience chooses will be the choice the character(s) make. However, every page will also allow the audience to suggest their own option if they do not like the ones available. Whenever a page is posted there will be a day where the suggested options are revealed but nobody is allowed to vote. Instead they are allowed to suggest alternative actions. When this day ends the action that has received the most support from the audience, and perhaps the option I find to be the most interesting, will be added to the other vote options. Then the actual vote will be opened and you will indeed be allowed to choose your own adventure.
No: Gank is more than just choosing what action your protagonists should take next. There will also be role-playing elements involved, including inventory management, character leveling, and a combat system. Battles will be decided by strategy, with your characters’ strengths and weaknesses on clear display, and whether they succeed or fail will be entirely up to you, the audience, and not the fickle whims of the writer behind the scenes.
A battle system huh? That sounds interesting. Can I learn more?
Not yet, but I will be posting the rules shortly.
You’re gonna want money from this thing, right?
Yeees..? While technically Gank is non-profit, I am accepting donations. How much support Gank gets will determine how much I can re-invest back into the series, and I would like nothing more than to commit to it full-time. But I can not do that without support. I also know people don’t want to throw their money at things without getting some serious stuff back in return, so I’m proud to say that Gank has a unique reimbursement system in place to reward you for your contributions.
Money donated to Gank will do two things, meaning your dollar is doubling up on itself. Talk about a quality investment! The first thing your money does is teleport straight into the world of Areth, depositing into a treasure chest in the form of rubies, where it waits for the Gank crew of your choice to find. This means that the very next treasure chest they procure will reward them with that amount of rubies. If they fail in acquiring a treasure chest then don’t worry, your rubies will just move to the next one. There is no way to lose rubies that have been donated, but they must be acquired by the characters before it can be spent. Rubies can be spent in one of two ways: the can be converted into gold doubloons for purchasing normal inventory and repairs and what not or they can be spent at Giney Jones’ Locker on stats and other special options, like character saves (more on that below).
Money donated will also be banked in the real-world, where I will keep track of the total amount you have donated over the life of the project. Each week I will choose people from this banked account list, always at least the one with the current highest amount, and they will get a commission of their choice. This commission can be any one thing available on my commission options list: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8079430/ , but once you have been chosen you must spend the total amount of your bank account on that commission. If you want to donate more to Gank but do not want to bank more money on a single commission you can choose to split your account, meaning you can have two or more accounts added to the banked account list. I am aware there will likely be a lot of repeat names atop this list, which may crowd out other contributors, but I will make a point to get to everybody that donates and you do not have to be anywhere near the top of the list to be one of the additional accounts I may choose to work on. Please have a commission waiting, because when your account is chosen I will want to start immediately. If you are not ready you may be skipped over.
Remember that contributing to Gank is a donation to support the project, and my artistic output if you happen to enjoy what I’m doing but for whatever reason don’t care much for Gank itself. It is not a traditional commission system. If you want a straight-forward commission in a short period of time note me with the specifics and we’ll discuss things from there.
Note: I am currently behind on commissions, so Gank commissions will not begin for another two weeks, minimum. If you wish to contribute before that time you can.
Alright, that's great. Say I get free cash. How do I donate?
Through paypal of course! Send your amount to studiostank (at) yahoo.com, but remember to include these three key pieces of information in your transaction notes:
1) Your FA username or your Real Name. Whatever you want me to use to keep track of your account and contact you. If you are not using your FA name also include an active email account.
2) Which Gank crew you wish to support. There are two, one on FA and one on Eka's. There is only one bank system however, so this choice will not affect your chances at commission selection.
3) If you want to split the amount into a separate banked account.
You mentioned Vore. Is this going to be one of those things for perverts?
Yes. The content on FA will never be too extreme for younger audiences, but the priority of all incarnations of Gank is vore and other fetish-related content. I intend for the project’s FA incarnation to be perfectly appropriate and enjoyable for all audiences, even ones that are ignorant of certain peoples’ particular interests, however there will be a lot of vore (and other) content and likely a great deal of discussion about that content in the comment section. If you are easily offended about this kind of thing, for whatever reason, then consider yourself formally warned.
If there’s Vore there’s usually digestion. Can characters die?
Yes. Even though there is magic in the realm of Areth, it has not yet advanced to the level of resurrection. It is also a plot point that nobody that ventures deeper than two fathoms into the miasma covering the world returns, so it goes without saying that if a character does just that they are gone forever. So it is possible to lose a main character permanently. Even though death is a possibility, you can still do something to prevent it. There is a ‘save’ system in Gank. Characters that have a save are guaranteed safe from an immediate death. If they are ever in periled for whatever reason there will be a significant window of opportunity made available to the audience to save them, however they will have to act wisely and move quickly enough to save the character before this window of opportunity is closed. Once that occurs the character is placed in real mortal danger. Characters can only have one save available at a time and saves are earned through a variety of means, most commonly via purchase at Giney Jones’ Locker.
When can we buy stuff?
Doubloons can be spent whenever the opportunity to spend doubloons arises in the story. This means in towns and when in contact with merchant ships, but also when gambling or bribing fellow crewmen. They can also be stolen, so be wary.
Rubies are different. Since they are only obtained with donations they can not be stolen, but due to their mystical nature they also can't just be spent at your average sky vendor. They can only be spent at Giney's Locker, which is a metaphysical waylay point between the world of the living and the world of the dead, where mortals bargain for the favor of the gods. It sounds difficult to reach, but really it's very easy. You simply rest at a moment of peace and your soul will be unburdened enough to temporarily leave your mortal coil and travel along the tapestry of reality with relative ease. Basically you will have the option to visit Giney's Locker between story events, when there is nothing of immediate relevance going on.
So... are there two Ganks or am I just as drunk as you were last night?
There are. Off the starboard side you’ll find the crew of The Fancy Yarn setting sail in the calmer breeze of Fur Affinity http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10507344/ , and over the port side The Bolas ventures into the darker waters of Eka’s Port...al [link]. Gank on FA will be safe for all audiences, while Gank on Eka’s will have some more mature stories to tell. They are both entwined by the thread of the fates, though to what capacity it has yet to be revealed...
What if I have more questions to ask?
Just ask them below, you scurvy-ridden bilge rat.

I'm still rather baffled by why you and Humbug want to mix RPG elements into your CYOAs, but in general this seems pretty exciting! And I hope you're planning to explain that "suggest then vote" system in the description for every single page, otherwise you'll get about 50 people doing it wrong each time
