A new song idea. Any comments or critiques are welcome. Just a warning, it's going to sound a bit repetitive without lyrics and solos, but this is what a bare-bones rhythm track sounds like. This song is a bit faster than our previous material, and there is an even faster version we are playing around with that we can use. Another warning: there is a big old fat fuck-up in the drums that you're going to hear around the bridge. Don't slam us too hard on this mistake, because we are well aware of it's presence, as this is just a quick run-through of a new idea, and we should have the kinks ironed out when we put words and such to it later. Cheers!

We're basically a mix of late 70's and early 80's so far as metal is concerned, with touches of industrial and goth (for keys and ambiance mostly, which hasn't really come into play with what you've heard so far), plus a helping of 90's hardcore (particularly the NYC variety). This puts some of our riffs right around the sound of the original metal bands that inspired the later "doom" sound (sometimes these bands are referred to as "proto-metal" because they were precursors to bands that actually identified as heavy metal). Of course, there's more recent music that inspires us too, and I'll name-drop stuff like Katatonia, Opeth, Type O Negative, Life of Agony, Only living Witness, and Poets of the Fall, but the rest is up to you to figure out.
Well, early metalcore stole a lot from the Gothenburg scene, added rhythmic chugging and hardcore-style breakdowns, but newer metalcore kept the latter ingredients and replaced the former with (poorly executed) electronics, auto-tune vocals, and elements of post-punk or emocore; the results of this mixing have left a music form that is only "metal" by virtue of the guitar tone alone. Admittedly, some of it can be good, but most of it is just heavy pop music to me.
I immediately had to think about "Metallica" with "Enter Sandman", hehehe... so this is more or less the "CLASSIC METAL" genre, if I would have to name it.
BUT I also thought about something like a "Stage Select" song, ya know? I can imagine a screen (just like from "DUKE NUKEM"), where you have to select the level or any options. It could also work as "Select your character" song, when we have the fighting game genre.
Yes, it is repetitive... indeed, but that is not bad, at all! Like I said, it would be ideal for some "Selection Screen" or "Title Screen Into" for any cool game! ^___^
Though it is repetitive, it is NO "chaotic"! I can recodnize a pattern here and THIS IS GOOD!
You know I was suggesting you to work with some simpler patterns and doing a loop from these. And you did!! So, +point for you! :3
Also, the style and voices are WELL played - no mistake in volume, tempo or style. All instruments work together AND NOT AGAINST each other!!! Also the mixing is MUCH BETTER now!
So, this here is a great example of a practising a repetitive theme... and I can even hear two themes, at least.
Both cues are not really "mind blowing" - but that is not neccessary. It is a GREAT practise and for the first time, you and your band have added some SUBSTANCE to your song.
Substance and pattern. Structure!!
:)

Thanks! You words are very kind indeed!
This one is meant to have a more "classic" feel to it. We still have some more complex pieces and even some softer things coming out eventually, but this is the skeleton of a more mid-tempo song and not much like the slower "doom metal" that is our usual stock and trade.

Thanks a lot dude! I just can't wait until we have some finished product to share, as everything we've done so far is a rough outline, rhythm track or wordless demo or rehearsal. When we get to that point, we'll make the appropriate bandcamp pages etc., so people will have somewhere to go for our music other than Youtube or FA. Also, I gotta ask, have you heard of the drummer Sal Abruscato? I swear I think of that guy every time I see your user name.
Yeah, Sal's the original drummer for Type O Negative, then moved to Life of Agony, then Stereomud, and became a go-to-guy for tons of other bands ever since, like a session guy (similar to Josh Freese but more metal-specific). Once we have completed songs, we'll have a page up. ^..^
