I was kind of surprised that there were birds in the conservatory, it was quite a nice surprise at that.

Not much of a song, just a chirp every time they move. Drove me crazy after a while. I had them a few years (although I seem to recall getting a new pair somewhere along the line). I had cats at the time too, but the cage was hanging from the ceiling.. they never bothered the birds.
Now.. my goldfish and pet mice... they did end up meeting the cat. I always had way too many animals as a child.
What am I saying? I -still- have too many animals I have 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 5 hermit crabs, 10 chickens and some fish in an aquarium. As a child we had a dog, 5 cats, 5 rabbits, 2 rats and some goldfish at the height of our pet collecting My poor mother..
My cats did well with larger fuzzy critters; rats, ferrets, rabbits, chickens (once past the chick stage).

Cats remain my favorite pet Not too much of a dog person, unless they're older, larger dogs.. they're calm, loyal and cuddly. I can't stand yappy, hyper dogs.
I do really like having working animals like chickens. Something so satisfying to growing your own veggies and getting eggs out the backyard.
