Dawwwwwwwww, bettas! ^.=.^ you've got some fine looking specimens there, i can't seem to find any good ones around here, the ones in the petshops look...dingy.

Every once in a while the petstores get some good ones in ^^

Genetic defects? Yeah, only the blue one, Seymour, has a complete tail for being a half moon.

PetSmart. I guess in the betta world (which I actually know only a little bit about), pet store bettas are low-grade. I still think they're pretty, though.

Yeah. x_x; Even my Mountain Cloud Minnow tank has a heater just incase the temperature drops...

The blue betta has a whole gallon to himself. The others have at least a half gallon each

That's still kinda like putting you in a small closet and saying 'you have enough room to live you can just stay in here'
It'd make you a lot happier to have room to really swim around! Wouldn't you like to have happy bettas in a few 10gallons? They're pretty cheap, even!

bettas need a minimum of 5 gallons with a heater and a filter

they really are wonderful fish and very active and lively with the above set up

actually a minimum of 2.5gal is good for them, as well as a heater. Filters can sometimes damage fins but their not always a bad idea. As long as you do a 25% water change every other day and then a 50% to 100% every week if you don't have a filter the fish will do just fine.

I change their water every week to keep the water clean and clear. Thanks for all the info you've provided

if you get your little guys 2.5 gal tanks they will be much happier and have less ammonia building up in their tank quickly. If you don't like filters you can do the 25% water change every other day and 50% to 100% every week. I've been doing this with mine and he's been rather happy(this is with live plants), the 100% is what you need to do every week if their are plastic plants in there, since real plants help reduce the build up of ammonia(but still needs the water change).

I got a 2.5gal tank at petco not too long ago for around $5? or so, their super cheap and your fish will be much happier with the additional space :3

I really want to get a king halfmoon, but I'm very picky about coloration so I've never seen one I actually wanted. I think I'm going to try to find a breeder in my area when I'm ready to set up the tank, it just has plants and snails right now, but should be pretty thoroughly cycled by now.
