Ok so my Riptide is pretty much done, just one or two bits to finish off (small details) things that I can do in about 15 minutes, but I thought I'd show off my work on my Riptide Battlesuit, who has the name Skydancer.

The tau are awesome.
GW isn't that expensive actually. They do make premium quality products that are luxury items, but if you follow the rate of financial inflation GW has been pretty steady, a good portion of their products are actually under what they should be charging, where as only a handful are slightly over. It's a delicate balance thing that GW has handled pretty well. They are a business out to make profit but they use a lot of that to fund research and development to make the models better and better.

with the set up I've got I could do the following:
x4 twinlinked smart missile shots at S5 AP5
x4 missile pod shots (from shielded missile drones - 2 each) Str 7, AP 4
all the while keeping 2, 4+ invulnerable saves with my drones and a 5+ inv save on the riptide as standard.
x3 str 7, AP 2 Ion accelerator shots OR a single str 8, AP 2, large blast shot
AND
activate the nova reactor for:
replace Ion accelerator shots with a Str 9, AP 2, Ordinance, large blast, with gets hot. - OR - boost my invulnerable save to 3+. - OR - double my smart missile shots for the turn. - OR - get an extra 4D6 thrust move in the assault phase.
All in all the double shots thing or the improved inv save is what I'd use the most. By my reckoning that'll be 3-5 marines dead a turn enough for moral tests and breaking nice weapons
The trick is to surround it quickly and don't let it lend support to other units, if it does that unhindered, you're finished.
