OH GET THE GREEN WING, YOU WOULD NEVER REGRET IT. The price tags are nothing when you consider how love they live, how much joy they bring and how many hours went into raising them with careful, tender love and kindness.
I felt like I practically stole my bird considering how much she is worth to me and how much joy she brings into my life EVERYDAY!
Having a macaw is like having a silly little clown who follows you and tries to help you with what you are doing all day.
My life is so much better with a companion bird, I now know what was really missing.

Yeah really I get that bond with my bird, hanging out with her all day it's like having another person in the room. :3
Once we're moved into a nicer spot and have more space for another bird though we may consider it, but really I want a CORGI before another bird, seriously a little pup running around the house with our other dog would just make everything perfect. :3
I'm glad you're happy with your new bird bro, I find macaws to be a tad intimidating because of their stature but I know how sweet they are.<3

She spends about 8 hours at my work desk while I make suits so shes used to them (I make sure and cuddle her with the head on alot)
Funny enough, I had been on a quest to purchase an african grey thinking that would be the perfect companion for me, long story short, they are more like the stand-offish intellect and one person birds where as GoldenBlues are like a big cuddley doofus with strong sense of family. I went in to the breeders home to see the baby greys but the macaws wouldnt leave me alone and Venus just picked me and I fell in love with her. Greys tend to bond with whoever raises them, then when sexual maturity comes they will most likely pick a mate (another person) and then you'll get the short end of the stick for their affection.
GOD I gotta stop rambling about birds

Both my fids are about to turn 1 year old woo I'm such a happy birdie mom ^w^ Owning a parrot really is like owning a feathered kid! lol I dream of one day owning or even breeding a few pairs of macaws or greys, maybe some smaller species c: Okay I'll stop there XD I tend to ramble on and on about birds. Glad you found yourself such a beautiful baby! ^w^ I hope you two have tons of fun together! c:

I'm enjoying seeing your suits grow in leaps and bounds! Love the new face style for sure!
Now, I'm actually TERRIFIED of birds, how exactly did you break into working with them? I want to get better about liking them -- but they intimidate me a lot. (Which is funny because we own big dogs, no problem). Lol. Anyways, she's beautiful! Can't wait to see what all you teach her! (:

Birds are more like people than dogs, unlike a dog, there is no breaking them.
With birds you work with them and build trust, punishment and negative things will make them write you off quickly
Where as patience, attention, and affection build an extremely strong bond.
I have personally never understood the rewards of a birds companionship and trust until now,
But I can definitely say it is much different than a dogs, while I can't say either is more rewarding than the other ;)
I used to be afraid of those big old macaw beaks as well, but after working with great horned owls for the last two years, I don't find any birds intimidating- just have more of a respect for them rather than trying to control them like other animals you kinda have to "conquer" them.
As an example just now, Venus was starting to get a bit fussy on my work table because I am typing this right now and it annoys her when I am on my phone or computer specifically, so she walks over and likes to test me with little presser bites (they don't hurt but it's her way of letting me know she's annoyed and frustrated) so I just take her back to her cage so she can blow off some steam of her cool toys in there while I get stuff done. I come back 5-10 minutes later and she's forgotten all about it (just like a little kid).

Huh, I never thought of them as having a more "human" thought process rather than an animal one. That's actually really interesting. I have tried multiple time to work with the birds here in the pet store, but they are farm raised and deathly scared of people -- so it almost makes my fear worse. I'm sure if I met some nice hand raised birds, it would improve my attitude towards them...maybe I'll look into going to a bird rehab center. I know down here we have some wildlife centers, but the birds there are off limits to the public, as they are wild and they try to keep human interaction with them as little as possible.
I'll definitely do some reading on birds for sure now, seeing as how the girlfriend wants a larger one, thinking conure, not parrot. And since we share responsibility with all the animals, I would need to feel comfortable with him/her as well! (: Thanks for the advice though, that helps out. (Well, info and advice)!
Speaking of dogs, do you still have the Pomeranian and Sheltie? I remember you getting the AKC Puppy S.T.A.R certificate for her -- which lead to me investigating it and getting my Pit Bull certified. So I was just curious! :P

Loveeeeee love the new head style! Will you be doing a majority of suits that way now?
P.S.. Totally jealous of your bird lover right there. Macaws are gorgeous and if you have any advice for me on my Sun Conure I'd love to hear it, haha! He's like.. a 9 year old boy who was mistreated almost his entire life before coming to us a year ago and he just can't warm up to me. He'll come to the front of the cage sometimes but if I even put my hand in low and slow he freaks the hell out. I've tried taking him out slow and repeatedly multiple times over the past year for about a week but he just hates it.
Sorry for my rambling, for all I know you could not know a thing bout 'conures attitudes. Woops. Lovely bird and suit nonetheless!

I am not a parrot expert but I would suggest reading up on the relationship you can have with such a bird (shy nervous type). Shy birds usually really hate hands so play the " I don't have any hands" game with him alot(put your hands behind your back and posture like a birdy and try to use your head like head does-they love it) and peek a boo is a great game! Another thing shy birds love is when you act like they startled or intimated them hehe, it really gets their confidence up! Conures can be really tough though that's for sure, people get them and don't treat them right due to poor planning (like the previous owners), it's sad that there are so many birds in need of rescue so good on you for taking on such a tough challenge!
I adore the new face, its so chubby looking which truly makes it look so much more girlie, and just all around darling.
Curious, ?I don't know much about birds or owning them since even though I do find them beautiful, I'm scared to them. But I'm curious to know are parrots noisy birds? Also, what's their temper like?

It really depends how much you work with them :) my girl spends about 80% of her waking hours outside of her cage with me at work. They have an intellect the level of a small child, if they are locked in a cage and only brought out to show off for strangers they will most likely be a terror of an animal. Meanwhile if you treat them with kindness and respect they really do try their best to do things to please you in return for your kindness. They are flock animals and golden blues specifically stay with their families most of their lives and have strong family bonds. But also like any person, they can have their "off days" (we've all had them) and even those days you just get through them wih respect like you would with any person. As for loudness :) these animals sounds are ment for complex social and distance calls in the wild and have calls that can be heard for miles through the thick rain Forrest trees... You do the math ;) my baby can let out some earth shaking calls when she is trying to contact me, but I ignore her till she calms down and train her that I won't approach her until she uses her "inside voice".
I hope that helped alittle :)

See, I've just heard horror stories regarding birds, and well parrots and parakeets that I was curious to see if they were true, but I guess those type of terror behaviors could happen with any sort of pet really. I was curious about pet parrots compared to their wild ancestors regarding loudness, which is why I thought I would ask you.
I do thank you kindly for taking the time to explain it to me, it really did help ease some fears regarding birds. ^^

I've got a blue and gold macaw, she's about 50 years old.
We rescued get from an owner that beat her, and abused her, she was close to death before we got her. And because of that she plucked all of her shoulder, belly and back feathers to the point of never growing back. She also doesn't know how to fly and has a fear of people and random house hold items.
I've managed to bond with her which took monthes and now were inseparable! Im so glad I have her in my life, they are amazing birds and amazing best friends! She has grown some of her feathers back and demands going into the shower with me x3
They are defiantly worth their price!

Such a pretty bird and the new suit is great!
BacardiBoat and I have a blue Quaker Parrot. He's kind of a durpy runt but I love him.

Oh My goodness. I'm sorry but Venus is stealing the show <3
I've raised a few cockatiels in the past and must say, I know how rewarding it is to have a bond with those little feathered critters. There's nothing more rewarding then building trust with someone who can't speak your langue but you understand one another perfectly <3 I had a cockatiel a few years back named Neeko, I will never forget the day that I brought him outside. His wings wern't clipped and he was a pretty strong flyer. Something startled him and he flew into the forest behind our apartment. He was high up in a tree and when I got close to him ( I could hear him whisteling) I called him and he came right down to me. I caught him before he hit the ground since he was aiming to land on me as it seemed, we just strolled right out of the woods. This bird could have flue off and we could have parted way right then and there but he trusted and had affection enough to come back with me. I'll never forget that day and I miss him everyday. I know you will have so many happy years with Venus, congrats girly <3 And I want to see more of her! You gotta post more pics >w<

Yes I must agree! The best part of being with her is the strange yet natural non english communication we share. I am awe-struck how easy it was to pick up on her every cue after a week. We have spend a month and a half together yet the trust is so strong already. I only hope not to mess it up but I know if I do I'd still work twice as hard to get it back. I promised her when I took her home that I'd always take care of her. I'm so happy to finally have the chance to feel the magical bond only a bird can offer!
I'm I'm awe with the new lucky head. I'm a totally bird lover always wanted a small bird but never got the change. That is a beautiful bird they are just so amazing to look at and talk to. <3 just the colors on them just amaze me you are so lucky hahaha ironic. <3 my dad wants one but he doesn't have experience with birds but we are still looking into it. They seem like amazing pets to own. Thanks for sharing.
Such a big comitment ;o; I've heard macaws can get really fiesty when they go through puberty ;;
