This is something I did a long time ago, but found recently. I consider it appropriate to
Poetigress recent prompt. Enjoy!

*hugs the vixen gently*
Thank you, good lady. And yes, I have done this.
One more thing. The intro I wrote I unthinkingly posted to the entry I made on Poetigress' Journal, so I doubt many saw it. It read:
"I wouldn't normally consider this, but I have something I just realized is so very appropriate to this prompt. I did it 9 years ago, while staring out my bedroom window at the snow and listening to a recording of wolf howls.
Almost no one knows this (and of course now almost everyone will), but the sound of a wolf's howl has a intense effect on me. It will usually bring tears to my eyes immediately. There is something so profoundly sorrowful in wolf song that I can barely prevent my reacting to it this way. It's been this way with me for as long as I can remember.
And that's why 'The message' was written. Enjoy"

Lovely and powerful. My favorite lines: "She sings the oldest of the world's songs and I ache to know the words. I would sing back, joyous, mournful."
Wolfsong, whalesong, all the deepest music of the world... I think we knew the words once, long ago, so long that we mourn that loss without even fully comprehending what's gone.

That was incredibly well written. I was immersed in the story from the get go, and you had so many memorable lines as already stated above. The one that stood out for me was, the rumpled grey sky looms like the unformed thoughts of God. Winter's sharp kiss touches my face as I take in the gracefully molded curves of the land. Just marvelous, really.
