Chapter 6
At the back of the cave was an illuminated lagoon with crystallized-like rock formations of every shape and size. Beneath the water was more formations whose brightness seemed to make the water glow. I slowly walked towards the water’s surface, my paws gently moving across the bedrock.
“I found this cave as a pup,” Glacier said, making me turn to face him. “Its beauty comforted me when I felt the world had abandoned me in darkness.” He walked past me to stare at his reflection in the water. “Your differences should make you unique and not define whom you are.”
“Glacier?” He turned his head slightly. I came up beside him and gently nuzzled him. He smiled and nuzzled back. But as soon as he let his guard down I brought my paw up and pushed him into the water. Glacier barked loudly before splashing into the cool water. I fell to the ground, laughing hysterically and rolling around. He brought his head out of the water and flattened his ears against his head.
“You think that’s funny?” Glacier smirked as I sat back up.
“Quite funny.” As I looked away from him he sent one of his paws soaring through the air before smacking against the water and splashed me with water. The coolness sent shivers down my spine, making me jump and move away. Now Glacier was the one to be laughing hysterically. I flattened my ears and walked towards the edge.
“That was not cool.”
“Actually it was quite funny.” Glacier smirked again, grabbing me around the neck and pulling me into the water. Letting out a loud bark I felt my body hit the water. I stayed under the water for a moment so I could see the crystals that were making the water glow. When I came up for air I found Glacier laughing again. I stuck my pink tongue out at him and splashed him in the face. He shook his head and chuckled. I took the opportunity to climb out of the water; he followed soon after. When I turned to face him our eyes met. I had never fully noticed the vibrancy and spirit that shone in his bright yellow eyes. My face was reflected off his eyes as he drew closer to me. My cheeks turned bright red and hot. Butterflies seemed to flit about my stomach and make me shift my weight nervously. We soon found each other a mere whisker’s length away from each other’s muzzled lips.
I ended the silence with a clearing of my throat. We backed away from each other, both of us blushing red. My heart was racing, and my body was shaking. I kept thinking What just happened? Why do I feel like this? What is this feeling? Glacier scratched the back of his neck anxiously and smiled, “So do you want to keep swimming or dry off?”
“We’d better dry off. The storm should’ve passed by now…” He nodded in agreement before we both shook the water out of fur. Since I was still damp I simply made the excess water evaporate. Glacier shook his head, being baffled and amazed by my powers at the same time.
We then walked back to the front of the cave. As I bid farewell to Glacier he gave me a soft hug and lick on the cheek. The feeling of his silken tongue against my fur sent chills down my spine and made me fluff up slightly. A pink hue stretched across my cheeks as I walked out.
“Good-bye Wuf!” Glacier barked as I walked away, softly whispering afterwards, “Be safe…"
