...Aaaand page 6. Got together with the Tucson Mob today. Naturally, we stopped at a couple gun stores after lunch. Eeee-OW, ammo has gotten expensive! I picked up some .303 anyway. The Enfield rifle may be "obsolete", but it carved an empire for the British in it's time, and it still works just fine. Besides, I like a gun that can be used as a heavy club. Try clubbing someone with an M-16. The best you can hope for is that he'll be scratched by one of the shards of plastic as the gun shatters into little bits.

Can't wait to see where this is going!
As for the M16, though, they taught us to butt-stroke tire dummies in basic training. Despite the fact that all the rifles we had were old, they all held up pretty well, save for a handguard falling off here or there. Mattel uses some kind of high-speed fiberglass reinforcement or something in there. Ammo is getting too expensive, though, you're right. I did find a good deal on clean Bulgarian surplus 7.62x54R yellow tip heavy ball for almost $.15 a round. Still in sealed cans. I can't find any .223 or .308 for near that price, and I'm not about to run Wolf through my good rifles.

Hmm, yes I can see that a policeman's wife should really, really know how to handle a gun. Still, if I were running with a gun pressed to my belly, I'd want it uncocked, and with a revolver that's a fairly heavy pull for quick shooting.
The flintlock carved an empire in its time, too, but Fort Pulaski was an object lesson in battles between mismatched technology levels. I think the Enfield was replaced by the Maglight when clubbing is needed.
