A quick doodle of the Maus-uma war pneumatic musket. Closer in size to a toy rifle, this weapon used brass cylinders to store air capable of driving a 6mm hardwood dart down range at respectable velocity. It uses a drop Martini style action and oiled leather patches that had to be replaced every hundred firings (every forty is recommended). The barrel was a smoothbore of heavy brass reenforced by a carefully bedded to the hard wood stock. Tin and brass were used as furnishings. The dart was made on lathes and were carved for stability, like South American blowgun darts, and often with a tuft at then end.
They got the idea for the weapon from ancient stories, whose military capability was deemed safe enough for Maus servants to have access to.
While capable of injuring and killing a human, these were not effective against mountain lions, bears, moose, wolverines, alligators, and most other medium to large game except by massed fires. They were superior in many ways to the human spears and simple bows of the period. The darts could be coated.
