And censorship stifles creativity, Leo. Hiding the public from unpleasant things leads to vulnerability and ignorance. That's why Texas, despite teaching abstinence and only abstinence, has the highest teen pregnancy rate. Ignoring something won't protect you from it. You just won't see it coming.

Also, from a literature standpoint I think you should change up the characters a bit. Everyone's a clone of each other essentially, they all hate the same things and love the same things. Mostly hate. and they're far too "perfect." A good challenge in writing is to create a character you like and understand even if he does things you don't approve of. I gave the same advice to another friend of mine a while back. Hopefully you'll take it better than he did.

I'd hate to hear how he handled it.  Chuong might tell me the same thing, as he has characters I like and understand even if they do think I don't approve of, and my characters often end up having to clean up the mess.

I wasn't trying to link profanity and drug use as being true for everything, but if I've done that, I've done that by accident. I was just stating that in that one instance, the dad and son in question did both. Too many times in real life I hear profanity from smokers and drinkers.

Well, I swear at all hours of the day and do neither. Same with my older sister. Same with her significant other. The two aren't connected. Swearing's just an expression whereas those two things are addictions. Well, sometimes drinking isn't.

I am aware that there are those who drink responsibly; I just won't take any chances.
