You did not expereinced lovecraft work..wow is a suprise. But yes his style, entrenched in that 1930 over descriptive flavor can be "heavy" at times, but is interesting on many level. If being read at right moment of one's life you start getting on weird doubt that keep you awake at night "what if he was right right..If was so i would NEVER realize it and realizing it I would doom myself to insanity or worst...even doubting would pinpoint the wrong things on my doorstep...is that shadow really a shadow...How do you realize if you're insane or not?".
Lovecraft influence is creeped in most mediums directly or even better indirectly...

Lovecrafts chuthulu mythos can be intergrated with Robert E howards hyborian age, not only did the later include small hints to it. I am rather of the idea that i like Howards mythical prehistory more then elder gods with squid faces

ehhh..not sure...you must read/listen ALL the Lovecraft opus. Is crazy complicated. Cthulu is NOT a god in strict sense.
Is the high priest of a race of space things that worship Azatoth the mad god yelling in the void. And squid faced...well it depend when doing right the mythos look creepy and horrifying all right...but doing them right is hard and they had been done times and times...I suggest as reading a modern very good take on Lovercraft Mythos, Neonomicon. Is sick, insaen and gorgeously drawn. Plus give an interesting twist in the entire thing(Lovercraft was over sexually repressed, so most of the creepiest sexual aspect of the mythos had been downplayed...the comic make them more obvious...I noticed that in some way is the sort of thing that FA croonies like me could understand dont know you). Also things got very insane when you include the dream cycle(thing little nemo on LSD meet conan fighitng mythos)
Hyborian myths...meh, they were non entities for most part doing nothing. But i'm not too expert of Horward work outside Conan. SO i could have a limitied vision of it.

I am aware of the other old ones. the mad god and all that. to be honest. i just bought this audio book because i have no real intrest in Lovecraft and i didnt want to read it. no disrespect for his work, but i wanted a little experience of his writings

His works are hit or miss, really. I've read a lot of them, and I do enjoy them, but reading them can sometimes be a hassle. Even so, he does good stuff.

the only guy that really scared me was whean i was 8 and they read Edgar allan poes short story the black cat

Telltale Heart, Guillotine, The Raven various other stories from numerous authors, I love the gothic horror type stories. :3

Oddly it nothing ever clicked between me and poe...for most part, the pit and the pendulum is really angsty...as for me, at 8 years i sneaked at nght and watched classic 80s horrors(if my avatar is an hockey masked monstrousity there is a reason..). My last REALL scare happened after a marathon of Hellraiser(albeit the one in space almost ruined the experience...seriously why all "..in space" movie episode suck so much?? Except Jason X that was AWESOME!!). As for books i always found that Kafka was the most frightening bastard of the entire literary field..everything he write scare the shit out of me still now!

well Poe is the forefather to all angsty emo goth kids. Kafka was a screwed up bastard, so much angst. not really scarey but unsettling and uncomfortble

I liked Lovecraft's horror mythos better before I realized it was rooted in racism and xenophobia.
