I'm not sure how well I expressed the idea here. The text was too serious so I added the semi-related story with Chris and Stan below it.
I'm not sure I would have made this if I didn't have someone as understanding as
bosky around. I feel like I can say anything to him, and he can look on the bright side about it, or know my intentions are good, and even when I'm being weird about stuff he's really kind, and if there was something confusing, he doesn't mind taking a little time to understand me. And having someone that does that with me, and someone I can do that with too, I think has really helped me try to think the best of most people I know - or at least, instead of being upset and assuming the worst of someone, I ask myself what I'd do if Bosky said that, and how I'd still be kind and respectful while figuring out whatever is needed.
On the other hand, some people may not work that hard to understand your feelings. Or they'll just think you're being weird and focus on you being wrong, rather than trying to figure out differences in a respectful way.
Luckily, the more you go on as an adult, you learn who to stay with, and you can set higher standards for friends - and you need to! Otherwise you'll just keep dealing with the same nonsense, and risk getting dragged down into it too.

Oh, this. So much this. At 36, all the "problem" friends I had in my twenties have been culled, the wheat separated from the chaff. I now only do stupid and illegal things with responsible adults!

Héhé really nice li,l comic strip... I like the message your put in it... Understanding and taking time to discover the other person in front of you. respect and trust... yeah these are the pillars of a good friendship... really nice and darn good message Nishi *thumb up*
I'm really happy to see there was more to this comic, Nishi. I enjoyed reading it in it. Your insights and flow on friendship are always great reads.
In addition, I felt very emotional while reading your comments regarding
bosky. I have been very happy since you two have met as, over the years, you two really do seem to bring out the best in each other. It's heartwarming to hear such dedication and thoughtfulness.
In our current world, it is hard to find people who have patience and/or the time to "understand" someone. Lots of folks have an opinion and, rather than let it be challenged, will lash out thoughtlessly whether-or-not it will ruin a potential friendship, a friendship, and/or those who are a part of the involved parties.
You also have those folks who can act all friendly when, in truth, they just want something. "Conditional Friends" are the worst as being used is terrible. This is why I am not quite a fan of asking for requests when the offer is up. Requests are a great way to "test" an art technique you want to. However, you can also get a lot of "Conditional Friends" who just want to get free art instead of really caring about you or what you do.
Personally, as I've grown over the years, I try my best to be a friend to those who will give me the time and I know don't mind me being open and as supportive as possible. I try to be genuine and as open as possible as honesty is a huge part of any friendship. Lies, tricks, and deception only lead to hurt feelings and, anymore, I don't have time for that. :)

Thanks Yosh! I almost thought like I should do a whole other comic for the Bosky side of this, but writing works well enough. It's wonderful having someone that will really not get upset with you, and take their time and always seem to see your better side, even if we slip up here and there or are having troubles. At least that all sounds kinda cliche, but when you have friends getting upset at you for silly reasons, or not being able to be kind and respectful, it's good to know that you do have someone that is a lot more thoughtful around!
How very true.
You know, there is an episodes of ponies, "Lesson Zero", that goes very well with this concept. The particular scene being where all of Twilight's friends write off her concern as being nothing serious when, to her, it is. Due to a lack of follow-up by her friends, she enchants "Smarty Pants" and causes TONS of trouble to where Princess Celestia has to get involved.
Moral: Even if it may not seem important to you, it may be important to someone else. That is why "The Platinum Rule" is the one to follow. It states, "Treat others as THEY wish to be treated." The Golden Rule is fine, but lacking in the respecting that others are not always going to be like you. :)

Wonderful point, Yosh! The Platinum Rule!
On that note, I have a parody in mind called "Friendship 001". Nightlight seeks opportunities to help as a friend -- desperate to fill out her homework assignment. Unfortunately, she's gained too much a reputation for her impulsive nature messing things up.
And her mentor David Starlyre becomes her unwitting adversary. Lately, he's always been beating her to doing a favor, or leapfrogging over her! At one point, he even says something like -- "Nightlight, no offense -- but I'm afraid you have too much a reputation for messing things up. So why don't you leave this task to me?"
That remark drives Nightlight over the deep end. She decides to create a disaster for her to "rescue" the town from. She puts up nasty campaign posters in the names of two imaginary candidates running for mayor -- to provoke color prejudice among the ponies of Friendsville, along with racial prejudice among earthbound ponies, pegasi, and unicorns. She enchants these posters for extra measure (again, no magic -- it's science fiction / psychology). It starts a riot!
Unfortunately for her, her big brother sees her -- when he is riding in the air on Princess Skysparkle to visit her! It brings him to tears! (Skysparkle, as a 1008-year-old avicorn, is able to maintain full composure.)
Starlyre recognizes that he must own up to his own mistake. He got a little conceited with his own helpfulness -- and forgot to keep teaching his pupil to do this stuff for herself!

The true messy nature of friendship -- and the reward at the end for those who believe in the power of friendship -- has inspired a song for me (special version for my own series):
Friendship's a full-time job.
It's good work if you can find it!
It's not for the faint of heart
-- 'Cause you could get hurt or blinded.
It's not a part-time feelin'.
And it's not for the proud of heart.
Friendship's a full-time job.
It's good work if you can find it!
Walkin' through my mind,
Reflecting on my failures,
I really hope this time,
I've learned to do it better.
Too many times, I've lost control
And fallen to my anger.
I feel the monster inside.
Oh, how I wish I could stop scaring you away!
