Train Day 2013: The Kiddies Love Them Some Trains
I came up with a Clever Idea this year. I take a small gym bag full of $5 freight cars to these shows, and had enough track left over to put a circle on a nearby table. So, I set the track up, put a couple of reasonably indestructible boxcars on the table and let the kids play with them.
The enterprising lad on the right discovered the bag of freight cars. "OO! What's this?" (grabs a couple cars) "OOO! What's that?" (grabs a couple more) By the time he was done, my bag was empty and the track was full, much to my amusement.

Hee! I'll bet they do.
At train shows, I try to be the antidote to all those "Please don't touch" train layouts...
There is, of course, a semi-serious side to all this; most train club organizations are getting greyer and greyer, and doing something to get the kids interested now will pay dividends down the road.
