Yup, Or even if they waited until '21, after the election, so the gals would have had a chance to follow the politics with interest (since they'll have a say now) before casting a vote.
All those uninformed voters stepping in got the good-looking guy with the crappy platform elected instead of the bridge troll with a great 4- and 8-year plan.

Not really, I just remember that Women's suffrage came just in time for them to vote on a big issue, back when the candidates were honest about their platforms and typically took opposing sides of a Great Issue (Such as whether or not to join the League of nations) with the choice of president also being the decision of The people on the issue.
In fact, It might have been the League of Nations vote the female vote screwed up by picking Mr. Good-looking. I don't remember for sure, but that feels right.

I think people, regardless of gender, should only be allowed to vote after taking the most basic and simple quiz of questions regarding the current prominent issues the nation faces, and what each candidate's stances are on those issues.
Anyone who doesn't even know whether or not their candidate shares their stance on an issue should not be allowed to vote.
Incidentally, this means I would not be allowed to vote either. I've tried to avoid what I could of politics this year. I'm currently leaning towards Hillary just because she's already been through one presidency with a guy who did a damn good job of it, and because (sarcastic/humorous sexism alert) women are less prone to aggression than men. But when women DO get into a fight, they don't waste time with blustering and body blows, they go right for the jugular and end the matter decisively.
Also I loved Fox News's coverage of her "emotional breakdown" when she got a little misty-eyed during one interview. :P
Oh, on that note: question #1 on the quiz for the right to vote should be an instant pass or fail, and it should be "Do you believe Fox News to be either Fair, Balanced, or even a remotely credible and honest Political News source?"
Anyone who can't see what Fox News pulls should be shot. Or at least not allowed to vote. :P

Actually, your first suggestion there isn't a bad idea. I've _often_ said there ought to be some kind of common sense test before people are allowed their voter registration card. Just a quick yes or no quiz: "Does candidate blank support blankj issue? I remember back in 2004, a lot of people were thinking Bush was in favor of a lot of stuff he absolutely wasn't. And if anyone was given the test and complained because they either couldn't read or write, then they *really* don't get to vote.
I've also said there should be a national telephone survey with one question:
"Did you vote for George W. Bush in the 2004 election?"
"Yes."
"Then you are banned from voting forever on the grounds of extreme lack of judgment."
Voting for him once? Semi-forgivable. Voting for him twice? No way, Jackson.
I might not know where everyone stands on every single issue, but I do know that almost everything I've heard about Barack, I like. He has a few positions I'm not wild about, but mostly he's got ideas I support and he doesn't have that 'career politician' vibe about him. Plus he's so eloquent he could set Bush on fire merely by speaking to him. Plus, right at the start of the Iraq war, when it was dangerous to say shit against it, he said, "I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars." Oh snap indeed.
I dunno if she's on Fox News or not, but I saw a clip of Ann Coulter telling a _Jewish_ talk show host that she thinks everyone in America should be Christian and that the Jews need to be "perfected". Then she actually tried to *argue* him out of being offended at her. And people argue with me when I tell them that certain people really do deserve to die.

Well, historically, the reason that we don't have voting after tests is because it was disenfranchising freed slaves in the south shortly after the civil war. Most were illiterate, so they couldn't really follow the national elections that were mainly discussed in newspapers. Thus, there was a constitutional amendment to remove that possibility. Just so you know...
I was sort of aware of that. However, it's the year 2008 now and it might be a good time to repeal that. And, hey, I'll be generous. If you're blind or a recent immigrant, the test can be oral.
Personally, I'd like to keep all the evangelical Christians from voting for at least a few decades, but that's just me. :)

heh yeah. Im real big on Political Abstenance. I personally believe that CNN is managed by the dark forces of Pain. You'll notice that just about every story, underlined event coverage and hell, even that little info ticker scrolling across the bottom of the screen, are all negative news.
It's like theve made it there job to report the worst of the worst about society. I know were horrible and all, but were not All evil and corrupts. Yet you see more posts and reviews about car bombings and Rape and murder, then you see about girl scouts helping old ladies cross the road, or people doing humanitarian things like feeding the homeless.
Makes me sad and angry.
I stopped watching it years ago when I took a Global studies class in High school.
As for polotics, it's like, we can't even get a choice between good people, we have to figure out which one is the lesser of 2, 3, 4, or 5 evil's.
*flails*
I'd rather watch the cooking channel. Then at least at the end of the program I know how to make something that could possibly make me happy :P

You have hit upon one of the great cancers of our society. If you look at history on a wide scale, Americans are more polite, less violent, and overall SAFER than we've ever been before. But because bad news gets ratings, that's what plays. The worst part is; there's no way to cure it besides hoping it gets so blatant that even the average Joe Chowderhead realizes it (and it's damn close to that point).
Did you see that commercial of his I mentioned to EtherRealty!? He said that, because they talked about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, that means they were pro-life, and therefore antiabortion. Um... Were the founding fathers even AWARE of goddam abortions back then!?
