XL Missouri otter (not mountable) purchased to be made into a poseable Spook for a commissioner. All 4 feet, all claws and rich deep chocolate coloring just add to this super fat critter. The fur is unbelievably thick and silky, just can't get over those short little legs!
Fur and skull trapped in Missouri and purchased through a dealer. Blue tag though the eye is it's CITES tag as proof for legal harvesting. "Spook" copyrighted to Rebecca Sharpe, all rights reserved.

Pelts aren't just obtained to make others happy ;) The ones I have help further my knowledge of fur textures, markings, etc. where I wouldn't otherwise be able to see in photographs. They help me progress in my airbrushing and texturing as well as general traditional art as my housing currently doesn't allow for live animals. It can be sad, but is it better to leave a body lie and waste away or to be preserved to allow people a chance to see a creature that might have otherwise been impossible to see up close?
My father had a hat made of otter fur that he got from the Amish.
Though it wasn't totally water proof, due to the oils being removed as you said, it was still very slick, and water never soaked in because of the make up of the outer and inner coats.
Not water proof, but very water resistant :)

They're oddly a little more expensive most times. If you're looking for resin replicas though, hit up
breakspire she does INCREDIBLE ones!
