Okay the second closest I was to her
(This picture was taken back when people had to get oil directly out of dinosaurs)
Me: Take the bacon, wolf.
Wolf: Ahhhhh I dunno. What if you bite me?
Me: I can't exactly bite yo...
Wolf: yesbutwhatifyoudo?
Me: My teeth are flat. Like way flat. And my jaws are weak, they are only for salad.
Wolf: Nuh uh. Those two on the sides are sharp.
Me: Yes huh. Plus, it's bacon. Bacon is good.
Wolf: You said you only eat salad...
Me: With bacon bits. Sometimes.
Wolf: Well, I'll accept that. Promise not to bite?
Me: I promise.
P.S. She is a runt, and is well below the size of a full grown Arctic. It's as if she is permanently in yearling mode.
About her posture, notice her ears are not all the way back, like a submissive wolf. Yes, her position is very soft, not at all aggressive. Her ears are forward because she's scared. She is literally listening to every single sound I make, and her eyes are looking at me. her front left leg is still pretty far back- that is to help her pivot if she has to jerk back away from me.
My mentality around the skittish wolves was a self destructive one. When I was in with a nervous wolf, I would get nervous. Why? Because I was afraid of making it more nervous. Except, it sensed my fear, and got even more nervous. ("Why are you afraid, human? You gonna come at me, bro?" Believe it or not, this is a terrifying proposition for most wolves.)
So, then I sense it becoming more nervous, and I get nervous that I am being too nervous, and I grow even more nervous, afraid it will grow more nervous.
And what happens?
It gets more nervous. And I sense it, and I see it in their demeanor.
So... I would spend all of my time around the wolves that loved me, and I would just kind of casually hang out with the scared ones, become impatient and go back to the sweet ones. It is a regret. That I did not spend more time with the ones who were afraid of me.
It breaks my heart.

That's a good way of thinking about it- mental conditioning. And truly, it is. So much of it is, for survival... Fear is the biggest killer with them. When they are angry, it feeds it. When they are afraid, your fear will feed it, too. So, do not be afraid :)
I found with Tat and Shuk was to act like they were not there till they came to me. Showing them you are relaxed goes a long way to comfort them. How you carry yourself says a lot to them also. I was surprised how they acted when I sat on the ground with my back to them. They would many times slink up to me being submissive like they had done something wrong. After they got petted and scratches it was Okay nothings wrong, sometimes I would have a lap full of wolves or at least they would both try to be in my lap at the same time.
Actually, you are 100% correct. Ignoring them, and especially not looking at them helps a ton. (Unless you are still thinking about them, then not so much XD) I try and focus on things. "OOh, look at that rock on the ground over there." And they stop detecting the fear/ anxiety, and begin to see the real me.
Well, if you look at her pose, she is ready to jump back if I move too fast. Really, she is very apprehensive in this picture. But she *does* want to food, and is actually looking for a reason to like me, something to assuage her fear that I am somehow a scary dude.
