The first poster handed out to fans at an Edmonton Totems home game. You never know, in a few years this could fetch a fortune.
It is also a pose from a TV ad campaign, featuring the Totems (unofficial) locker room theme song, "The Northern Touch" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qCJ6Jazpfc)
This was back before the trade that sent Kasa Yalenchka (G, Snow Leopard) to the Plymouth Taproots. Rocky Caracal (G, Lynx) and Lenny Hicks (F, Coydog) however are here to stay. Hicks is the team captain and Rocky a veteran superstar.
It's been an impressive season for the Totems. They've made the playoffs in their inaugural season, a remarkable feat for a franchise that endured a relocation, a management overhaul, and the process of rebuilding the roster from scratch.
Of course, there were the "growing pains." Edmonton's opening roster was underwhelming, to say the least: a ragtag collection of rival veterans, journeymen, free agents, benchwarmers, draft picks, even a few D-League amateurs. Indeed, opening the season with a 6 game losing streak, it looked like the Totems were in for a long season.
With each game, however, the Totems began to creep from the Western Conference cellar. Lenny Hicks stepped up as the heart-and-soul of the organization, as the team of misfits began to bond as a family.
The constant roster tinkering of GM Percy Van West added several key pieces for the Totems first playoff run. The arrival of raccoon twins (Teeson & Sly) and a rookie-of-the-year contender (Frestrikial) paid immediate dividends. Formerly sitting at 18-31, the team has gone 16-12 since the blockbuster Taproots trade.
The Totems are currently 34-43, and are likely to host their bitter Northwest Division rivals, the Montana Howlers, in the opening round of the postseason.
Could the 7th seed in the West be the Cinderella story of the 2013 FBA Playoffs? Stay tuned and find out!
