
Not particularly artistic but just a show of what goes on behind the scenes when putting together a render. Oddly enough the reatime shading actually has it's own unique appeal to it.

I tried blender in the distant past. Back in 2007, I found it very user-unfriendly and couldnt learn the interface so I switched to using maya. Things are probably different now, but Yes. because maya is a commercial software and not public domain, its got alot more features than blender and is arguably better streamlined.
Still. if you ask someone who has used blender for 6 years the would probably say that maya is hard to use and user-unfriendly so I honestly dont know. It maybe worth your time to get a trial copy of maya just to test it out.
As for character rigging. because I've done almost 70 characters in my 6 years of using maya, I have pretty much nailed rigging down to a science. But yes. starting up in it is definately a headache and one of the steeper learning curves.
