Ah, yes...
The curse of being "gifted".

I have intimate knowledge of that. Always expected to operate at a higher standard of behaviour than everyone else, and it didn't take a genius to figure out that your entire life is carefully being planned out for you from the time you're a young kid, with little or no thought being given as to whether or not it might be what YOU want.

"But you have a gift! You need to understand that that also means you have extra and unique responsibilities..."


And then you find out that if you refuse to accept those pre-set plans, you WILL be completely cut loose. In every way possible.

The truly intelligent people never get listened to, or they're considered "posers", "artificial" or "overthinkers going for good grades"... The viewpoint is fascinating, someone being "too good".

There is so much sadness and truth here. It is tragic that so many folk have to wait until later in life to move beyond their parents' aspirations, however well they might have been intended. This short piece moved me. Thank you for writing it.
