Both Shadow and Lin say this to each other in the face of an enemy. Shadow really needs to realize that Lin can take care of herself. Although in the beggining, he tolerated her, he now is overly protective.
When I made Lin's story, I saw her more as a sister type. However, it occured to me that she is actually his mother, lol! She would be to Shadow what Jenova is to Sephiroth. Only she's not evil and she doesn't want to destroy the planet.

Lin's Story.
The past
Originally, Lin was just a normal girl born to a wealthy diplomatic family in Leung Kar during the more 'feudal' ages of Mobius. At a young age she began to display abnormal abilities. Abilities such as: changing the flow of water, adjusting the temperature of water, and soon she was able to readily summon water with her own mana.
These talents began to frighten her people and she was forced to hide her abilities. Soon, things began to return to normal and she lived out a normal life until her 18th birthday. A friend of the family knew about her secrets and wanted to use her to take control of the village and, possibly, the world.
He would drain the water from the planet and use her to become a gaurd. His first attempt was to woo her, but she was not interested. His aura made her feel...uncomfortable. So, he used force. He threatened to harm her family if she would not submit to him. In her fury, she refuesed to submit (as was taught to the females of her tribe.) and a fight began. The battle was fierce as her family's 'friend' was a powerful mage.
During the fight, he overpowered her and she was sealed away in crystal the color of ice. The crystal absorbed her and her powers and radiated it's own potential as one of the first chaos emeralds. Created out of chaos with the power of an innocent girl. She slept for eons, never knowing what became of her people.
Her dissapearance shook her mother and she passed due to a broken heart. Her father soon followed and the mage became the leader of the village. The guilt of what happened shook him as well, and he led the village to peace and prosperty with his new found wisdom. The village learned that evil is never the way and became artists, philosophers, and mages of gentle nature.
But that was a long time ago. What remains of her identity are long since gone, lost to time.
G.U.N
Lin was first discovered by Dr. Gerald Robotnik when he was a youth. She was one of his greatest discoveries and the reason for some of his most prominent experiments. She was kept under surveillance non-stop. Gerald attempted to uncover her emerald's mystery for decades, all the while retrieving vital information that could help man kind, he was even able to actually puncture the emerald and retrieve Lin's DNA. After Maria's birth and the child's diagnosis of NIDS (Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome), Gerald used most of the research from Lin's emerald to help Maria. It is believed that if not for Lin's trapped form, Maria would not have lived as long as she did. It was Lin's own blood that was used to keep Maria going. Maria was often found watching Lin's frozen form and silently thanking her, almost as though praying to a god. It was Lin's form that helped grow Shadow, almost making them siblings in a way. In the long run, G.U.N decided it was time to end Gerald. As Maria was setting Shadow free, Gerald was sending Lin's emerald away in the same process. She fell to mobius along with Shadow, but her emerald was never found.
And now....
Trapped in an Alpha (or Master) emerald for centuries, Dr. Robotnic (A.K.A Eggman) stumbled upon her in his hunt for power and chaos emeralds. What luck, it was like finding another 'chaos'. He attempted research on her to find out her origins and learn how to control her so there would be no mistakes...like with chaos. Unfortunately there was nothing at all about the mysterious emerald. Since he found it near Albion, home of the ancients, he assumed she was some god-like creature.
Slowly he tested the emerald, finding valuable information. Soon he would make attempts to extract her. One night, freedom fighters infiltrated Eggman’s hold, having learned of his new toy and thirst for ultimate power. Intent on stopping him and taking the emerald, they located Lin’s crystallized form.
Just as Espio was about to break the code, Shadow appeared, stating that he would take her, she belonged to him and her power was his power. A fight broke out, alerting Eggman. Soon the room was filled to overflowing with robots, Chaotix, and freedom fighters alike, all fighting for control of the mysterious gem. Knuckles deflected a shot aimed at him and it hit the emerald, which Shadow happened to be standing on, powering up his use of chaos control.
The hit cracked the gem and Lin’s eyes snapped opened. All stood back in awe as the emerald shattered and there floated Lin without a second glance she blasted them all and everything went black. The good awoken in their homes as though they had been dreaming and Eggman stood in the ruins of his home, as though he lost a great war. Lin had disappeared. Shadow searches for her still. She was the key of Maria, her keepsake that had been kept hidden for years.
Shadow had thought Lin destroyed, remembering the days when Maria would sit in front of Lin’s capsule and simply watch. In metal city, Lin awoke to bright lights and loud sounds. She was nude and bandaged, and remembered nothing save her name. Her savior, Vanilla, took care of her until she was well and let her stay until she felt it necessary to travel on. She had to know who she was…how did she come to be…why did chaos emeralds cause her severe pain...
How was she able to control the element of water....and what secrets she held that made the entire world want her.
It is difficult to have lived in a feudal age only to awaken to technology and the like. The world is so different than what it used to be. Men no longer have honor, women no longer have morales, and the children have no respect. What has the world come to?!
.....This could take some getting to used to...
