People only affect you if you let them. You can be optimistic and if people decide to take a piss on you for that.. that's on them. Warn these idiots and if they don't listen just cut them out of your life. You are not a flower jester.. a flower which is surrounded by fire will be consumed because it has no choice. It cannot move from where it is .. you have choices. Wrap yourself in these words and optimism as if it were your armor to protect you from these people and know there are people that care about you.
They like being miserable; it's something they can feel certain of: "Things suck, well at least I have the truth. That's better than things sucking and my being delusional." But it defeats the purpose of continuing to live, I think. It's also something that can be transcended, but not everyone is ready or able to do that. Don't fret too much, not everyone is a pessimist and if you aren't one, a pessimist philosophy is separate from yours. Stay strong.
