“C’mooon, dear, please? Pretty please?”
“Must I really wear this awful thing?” He toys with the green fabric, running his thumb over the hat’s seam. Her lower lip pops out from under her upper one in a pout. She knows he can’t resist her puppy-dog eyes.
“It’s not awful!” He rolls his eyes before running his fingers through his hair. Her teeth scrape the edge of her lip as she bites it. She loves it when he does that. With a throaty sigh, he tugs it over his ruby-orange hair.
“Fine.” His eyes roll again. He was always doing that, rolling his eyes. She wonders if there is something interesting on the inside of his eyelids, perhaps there’s a daydream plastered on the thin skin like a movie, constantly rolling through the day.
He tugs on the edges of the hat, trying to bring it over his ears. It doesn’t quite fit, seeming to be just a smidge too small. Her lips curl into a smile. He folds his arms over his chest and huffs a sigh.
A giggle erupts in her stomach and crawls up her throat like a caterpillar with a thousand little legs. She tries to swallow it, but the laugh sneaks through her teeth and out in to the air. His lips fall into a pout of his own.
“Hey, you said you wouldn’t laugh!” His tone reminds her of that of a child on the playground whose mother just told him its time to go. He assumes the same stance of such a child with slouched shoulders and a furrowed brow.
“I’m not.” She says, trying to keep from rolling her eyes. He is so sensitive sometimes. A huff escapes her lips while she concentrates on keeping her eyes in place. The corners of his lips droop a little further.
He folds his arms over his chest and turns away, trying to hide the reddening of his embarrassed cheeks. She sighs and taps his shoulder with her tan index finger.
“What?” He says, turning his head. She catches his cheek with her lips. The faint red that had dotted his cheeks a moment before grows into a full-fledged blush, like a flower opening its petals to the warmth of the sun.
“I think you look cute in it,” She says. “My little Link. ” She tugs the hat down, trying to get it straight.
A faint pink swirls across his pale complexion, a light blush overcoming his cheeks. He presses his lips together trying to keep from smiling.
“Does that make you my Zelda?” He asks.
“If you want me to be, though, I’m not too keen on getting kidnapped by Ganondorf” She says as her eyelashes bat in a wink. She turns and rummages in the bag she had brought with her.
“Now for the tunic” She turns back towards him, a pale green outfit in one hand and grey tights in the other.
