Tommy thought everything would turn out for the best after he saved the last remaining humans. Happy ever after and all that, right? Too bad they see him as nothing more than a ravenous wolf.
Now he, Rebeca, and English the lion have a new journey ahead of them. Out of the snow choked forests Vancouver and half way across North America, they'll discover the source of the Cataclysm.
A century ago it nearly wiped out the human race. Now it's just waiting to do it again.
They've made their destination, though they've still to find their goal... whatever it is.
And Tommy has a chance to get in touch with his animal side.
Warning: This chapter deals with more mature themes.
Don't have a clue what's going on? Start with the first book!

Oops!
In this case the humans arn't evil per se, just unlucky and under prepared. Too bad they didn't have anyone they could call who really understood computers.
And I never thought about the term slave. In this case it's purely technical. All the computers they found were 'slaved' together to form one supercomputer. Sometimes my jargon gets away on me.
But, yeah, slave can also mean much, much worse things.

Poor Tommy, that's actually really creepy! And I love that they don't even react much to the sight of a pile of corpses anymore lol...
Btw your use of slave is actually normal (I read some of the previous comments). Like, for instance, I worked in a college building where they used computer intensive software for stuff like 3D animation, special effects, video manipulation, etc etc. We had "Render Slaves" that were basically computers used to process projects faster than it would normally take with just one computer.
On to Thursday!

Yeah, Tommy's grown a bit from the first book where the very idea of a dead body would freak him out.
And the way you're thinking about 'slave' in exactly right.
The funny thing is I remember way back around 2000 there was a story about a woman trying to sue a hard drive manufacture over the fact that old disk drives used to have settings for 'master' and 'slave' to decide which one got priority.
