shave off the fur, ink the skin beneath it, keep the fur there very short, and bleached, that way it shows through better. intricate detail would be pretty hard to see, though

Or, change the pigment so the fur grows in that shade in that pattern. IT'S A THING ISN'T IT?

sheba has a "tattoo" but its cuz she dyes her fur there....constantly lol but on the scales underneath her fur, theres the actual tattoo

My excuse is that Rudder dyes his fur, it also gives me an excuse to give artists some freedom with them so that they don't need to get too hung up on always getting them looking the same. The more you know!

My thoughts were injecting the hair follicles with permanent pigment that effect the colour of the fur when it grow back, but detailed designs never look particularly good and it take a very long time to do it, so you'd only want a single coloured small-ish design :3 That's the one I apply to stuffs anyways :3

Fur and scales both shed. So does skin which is why the ink needs to be injected into, iirc, the layer of fat below the skin.

THIS is the issue I've had since day 1, I've never actually been able to bring it up until I had a mate with a snake tattoo on his fursona....it was a difficult discussion

That is the same idea i had, but its not the color of the follicle, but the concentration of the chemical in the hair. But yes, it could totally be changed.
