I agree with you, there. This type of fountain is just STUNNING. The scrollwork, the colorful tiles.. Just lovely.

Yes. There was a row of stone planters filled with Crassula ovata, Aloe spp., and Agapanthus praecox leading to the fountain.

I'd love to have an aloe plant. I had one in the house I grew up in but they don't seem to thrive in my current house and I'm not sure why. I've tried different soils, different levels of drainage, different water, different fertilizer mixes, different locations in the house. They always die. :/

I have other succulents that are thriving, most noticeably a Burro's-tail taking up my entire kitchen window. I just can't seem to keep an aloe going. ;_;

How do they die? In what manner?

I've had a couple where the tips started to whither and the whole plant shriveled up, but most of them have died from the leaves falling off; the place where they attach to the stem just turns brown and squishy and the leaf just pops off, one at a time until the leaves are all gone. Once the leaves are gone, the stem and roots shrivel up and die.

I've tried less water, more water, less sun, more sun, direct sun, indirect sun, cactus soil, plant soil, orchid soil, substrate for drainage, no substrate for drainage. Nothing seems to help. :/ And yes I sterilized each of the soils and pots before planting one.

Thats.... quite puzzling.... as the symptoms indicate that the culprit is highly likely to be some sort of bacteria or fungi. Maybe it's from splashed water from other plants?

At the time, I didn't have any other plants. Now I have a house full, haha.

Well, then its an enigma for me.

I just took it as a sign that I'm not meant to have an aloe plant and got ferns and dieffenbachia instead. XD
