(21 May 2013, Sigma 18mm-250mm HSM OS Macro lens)
When I figured out where the aircraft was headed, I had to run back to my car, and begin driving back where I came from. Unfortunately, the WestJet 737-800 lined-up with runway 25L much sooner than I wanted it to. From that point on, I knew the only chance I had at capturing the plane, was to return to the official spotting area.
Turning into the spotting area was the most agonizing thing ever. It seemed like I waited forever for each vehicle to drive past, there must have been two dozen of them. And with each passing car or truck, the B738 was getting closer and closer; I almost though I wasn't going to get a chance to photograph it.
When I finally got the green light to turn, there was a parking spot close by (thank goodness). As I pulled-up, I knew I had maybe 15 seconds to shut the car down, grab my camera, step out of the car, shut the door, turn on the camera, walk up to the fence, and focus on the aircraft.
Despite being in a rush, and the fence, I'm very, very pleased with this result. Not only is the image sharp, but I also managed the smoky touchdown. Given how good this photo looks, I may once again return to this location, even if I can't use a ladder.
