Nice Guys Finish Last
Hello my friend how do you do?
I hope that this fine day brings good fortune upon you
I don’t want to impose so I hope you take a fancy to me
I look to love you right and treat you fine
Call you beautiful because you are
Be your friend to keep you company
Watch your back when no one else does
No one wants to be alone
So why do nice guys finish last?
Because we live in a world of quid pro quo
To give is to receive
To give just to give must be some means to deceive
For one cannot believe
That we are nice for the sake of being nice
And those who do
See the benefits before the means
We say “why thank you for your generosity”
But in truth we say “thank you for being such a sap”
Nice guys give and give and give
And believe that good deeds will be paid in due time
That love will come to them if they treat you right
They sacrifice for the unworthy
They scratch for the ungrateful
They fall for the selfish and give in to the greedy
Nice Guys finish last because they are Naïve
They don’t impose when they should, they don’t fight for what’s worth fighting
Slow and steady may win some races, but it doesn’t win in life
We refuse to take risks for ourselves because we fear the result
We fake happiness in risking our wellbeing for others
We don’t take what’s ours because nothing is ours to take
Nice Guys are complimented
They are identified, they are praised for what they do
But what does praise serve for aside from a temporary smile
What does identification mean but a target to be used
Nice guys brighten your day
At no extra cost but their sanity
They satisfy your needs without any wants
Nice guys are the ultimate tools
They do what is right to receive all that is wrong
They tell themselves “Maybe if I, perhaps I should have…”
Because they should have
Because there is a difference between doing what is right and being foolish
Learn to love yourself before you love others
Do for yourself before you do for others
Maybe then Nice guys wouldn’t finish last…
Because this is how I really feel 90% of the time
