There were at least six diversions to alternate runways that day, and this Delta Airlines 737-800 added itself to the list. The aircraft was on final approach to runway 1R at the time. 30 minutes later, it landed safely on runway 25L.
The Air Traffic Control's decision to direct incoming flights to runway 1 confuses me. The winds that day came from the South South West, which meant the aircraft were flying with the wind instead of against it. Thankfully, the decision held for just 25-30 minutes before everything went back to the way it was.
