Nature's vicious example of plant vore, the deadly pitcher plant which captures hapless insects and dissolves them in caustic fluids. Found in peatlands and the like which is what I'm working in this week. Go Macro lenses :3

Where was this picture taken? (I suppose somewhere in north/east United States)
These Sarracenia purpurea grown in my garden (plenty of them) and to me there are some of the nicest sarracenia. But they only grow here because i planted them and raised them (yes my garden is full of roses and carnivorous plants) To see them in free nature would be so awesome!
I have to add something though: This kind of carnivorous plant does not produce its own digestive juices... It rather waits for the rain to drip inside its pitcher and the prey dissolves by bacteria. Thats why its pitcher is not protected by a peristrome!

Thanks for clearing up the method of digestion for me :3 And you are also right on the location, this guy - and many others were found in Taquamenon Falls State Park in Michigan but I've seen them in other areas of the Upper Peninsula as well, peatlands and such.
Thanks again for the comment and lesson :3
