Look at all the tiny details you put into piece.
From the reflections off the glass doors to the tiny blades of grass, you always put so much effort to make those details stand out in your works of art.
And that is why I think you are a very, very special artist. Kudos to you,
kacey!

Not trying to be snarky but my need for realism is kicking in on this picture. Family? Am I missing something about Chakats or something? To an extent I am aware that you can maybe get, say, a red pelt from two blacks with fox breeding. But this still doesn't... scream to me 'family' with the choice of fur pelt. Not your issue but I really have to say I find that thing awkward in such high quality art. I ~do~ take it a Chakat family has a dom and a sub by default though, which somewhat shows in the picture..?
I love love love the architecture in the background. I can really visualize the work lines, but they were also done correctly. The perspective feels just right. I also love the way you did the glass. Has a frosty textured feel to it.

There's real-world precedent that could support a wide variance of coat colors and markings with a sci-fi race with a very complex genome. It's exemplified by calico cats. Their patterns are determined in the womb by hormonal exposure. (This is true of all animals; it's just easier to see and understand with calicos.)
Seeing as how it's something really benign (I mean, really ... coloration ... is that REALLY such a huge deal?), I don't really see the issue with this. I can think of a myriad of far worse "just because" things that people could write up about a made-up race that don't make sense. Just seems an odd thing to nit-pick, but to each their own, I guess. =/
It wasn't really even brought up over Chakats in specific. It was just a generalized remark that it feels awkward to see a bright neon creature as offspring for two relatively normal looking creatures. As someone who knows nothing of Chakats, it feels VERY out of place while trying to emphasize a family scene. That's all, really. I was proven that in this case it has a point, though I somewhat disagree in the whimsical implementation. It does make me want to see more genetically similar offspring, though I realize that even within normal critters it's still rather possible to have huge deviations outside of the parents. One of those things with furry that is interesting, because perhaps a furry society would value genetic parentalship less strongly than societal bonds...

Would you mind unpacking that thought? I am absolutely not seeing a D/s context at all in this picture, which is also completely clean. Could you clarify?

Well like, the two expressions up there aren't of two best friends both going "YAAAAAY!" making funny poses beside each other. You can derive that overall, one is largely more submissive than the other, making it have a more romantic-relationship family feel than 'two friends and a kid'. :)
As do you for being unable to grasp the point I was making. And like it or not, we do not live in an idealistic society, yet it manages to function as a whole. I also do not see it being likely that an idealistic society would ever manage to exist and properly function over a long period of time. Individuals are too varied, too flawed.
Ok, I do have to admit that all of what what you said is most definitely true. I've just never really thought of a proper, standard marriage between two couples as being D/s, because I've always associated the idea of D/s with things related to the fetishy side of it.
But, yeah, in society at large, there are always some form of D/s relationships and structures.
BTW, I should watch the movie Sleeping With The Enemy.

Brava, Kacey! You are without a doubt the platinum standard when it comes to chakats and the chakatverse. What I really like about your work is that attention to minute detail; every time I look at the pieces you've posted, I find something I missed the last n times I looked at them
Looks great.
I hope it's not nit picking but the edges of the stone work on the sides of the stairs looks a bit too sharp.
If it's stone set in a similar way to bricks the edges should be a little bit more uneven, right now it looks a bit like minecraft blocks with some of the hi-def textures applied.
Other than that i would love to eat there.

Wonderful work as always, Kacey! I have a comic book I'm making called "The Curs" that has a character who is a Chakat named Sofie. The comic is about trying to fit in. Sofie is the only taur at her school. She's pretty and boys are attracted to her... until she stands up. You should check it out when I release it.
