Next is the sketch phase. Using the bones I created previously, it becomes a snap to flesh out the character. There's still some fine tuning to be done, like I'm not happy with the horizontal line on his back, and I feel like there's some problems with his left thigh/hip area, but those can be corrected in the next phase.

I also start adding details such as facial features at this point. Here is where the face becomes defined and expressions come to life. I rarely find that changes need to be done to the face after this point.

All of my characters start their lives as nudes, and remain so for a while. The simple truth is, clothing is ultimately shaped by the body and I find that trying to include it at this stage is simply counter productive and frustrating. Also, at this point, the tail is simply there for reference, and will be recreated later as a separate layer
