Memorial Day: Uncle Philip's Avia S.199...
Keeping the subject furry, here's a rendition of Mon Oncle as a hound and the Avia S.199 he ferried into Israel in time for the War of Independence in 1948...
And, yes, Israel used Messerschmitts (or Czech copies, anyhow)...

I have an excellent book called "Spitfires over Israel" all about the 1948 air war - complete with the circus colours for the Egyptian Hawker Furies seized from the Hawker air demo team!
The Avias were apparently a nightmare to fly! Apart from the dreadful Heinkel bomber engine powering the thing, the ex-allied plots were appalled at the way everythnig was rough -finished and muscle powered. ("Only a @#$% Nazi would make a Messerschmitt!") And the men who were flying Italian fighters kept them very much a secret to themselves, until the other crews discovered that the damned things were finished as immaculately as an Italian sports car!
There's a record of an amazing dogfight between Israeli Spitfire 9's (painted in British desert cammo) tangle with Egyprian Spitfire 9's (painted in British dsert cammo), and both sides reture in confusion, unable to tell on side's aircraft from the other!
Them was the days!
