make sure to use copper wire as the steel wire would not get hot enough. plus the copper is easier for quick changes in shape for getting different contuors.

Very true, I was going to toss the soldering iron out that I got for $8 at radio shack because it kept getting hot all the time in the transformer inside of it, but this looks like a great modification to do to it.
