While doing a mapmaking for our slowly evolving DnD universe, we began talking about some of the various races we've chosen to populate the continents. One such race is called Ursa. We decided there would be two groups, one in the forests as the main part of the species, and a small subset of Polar Ursa.
While talking about these races, it was noted that the Ura had no art to go on their stat page. I was feeling particularly inspired at the moment, and attempted to draw one of our Polar Ura. Needless to say I failed miserably and it quickly evolved into something else.
Going from Ursa, to bear-dog, to bear unicorn thing, to the monsters across the bottom. We've decided to name those URSIDAE. They're basically just freaky looking unicorns that will be inhabiting the deep forests.
From the Ursidae came the 'Lets mix animals!' segment of the stream, resulting in everything from scorpions crossed with wasps, to pangolin crossed with lions. One of my favorites was a mix of eagle and wolf, creating the sort of gryphon dog scribbled above. Functioning as remodeled and debuffed gryphons, they live in the mountain regions, especially in the range surrounding the swamp because of the bountiful and easy prey for them to slam down on.
...Really I'm having more fun making junk for DnD than I think I ever will playing. It's been what, a couple months now since we first entertained the idea? But as always, my friends and myself never like to just pick things up and start like normal beginners, no. We have to pull [in our thoughts] advanced rank crap straight up. Creating maps, monsters, an entire universe complete with its own lore. But what else can you expect from dorks like us?
