The sun was setting as he raced up the steps to the shrine. A broad smile spreading across his face; he couldn’t help himself. Slightly winded, he reached the top and looked out at the expanse of land bathed in the yellow light of dusk. He always loved the view from the Shrine of Wind’s highest point. You almost felt as though you were floating above the world like a slow drifting cloud. Time lost meaning and importance and you were free to flow aimlessly like the sense of peace that filled you. His eyes wandered from the distant mountain range to his more immediate surroundings. Reaching out his hand, he touched the smooth, white marble pillars that were on either side of the stairway, taking the time to appreciate the intricate veins of blue and purple amidst the stone. Violet metallic embellishments coiled their way up the pillars, swirling and spiraling around themselves. They reminded him of great purple vines. What are you doing? he thought to himself. As usual, you’re getting caught up and forgetting what you came here for!
With that, he reached into his satchel that was tied around his waist and pulled up his most prized possession. The moment he held it out, it began to levitate slightly above his hand. The magic surrounded it seemed to make the air glitter. The child-like grin returning to his face, he gazed into the blue orb he had retrieved. The shrine that was reflected in the ball began to waver and distort. Soon the image changed completely to a balcony with a blurry image of a person standing slightly beyond. Within moments, the image sharpened, the person’s face becoming quite clear. “Hello?” he said to the orb. “Is that you?” the reflection asked. “Yes, it’s me. “ the boy replied, his grin getting even wider and more mischievous by the second. “ You remember that thing I wanted to show you?” “… Yes,” answered the image warily. The boy couldn’t help but snicker “ Then look closely.”
He then chanted a few words of a language now unknown and the reflection in the orb was no longer the sparkling sapphire blue it had once been, but now in full vivid color. He turned the sphere to face his fantastic view. The other person now perceiving this landscape gasped in surprise. “ My gods, you weren’t kidding! Your grass there is green! I didn’t think it was possible! “ The reflected mouth gaped open, much like a lake trout. The young man’s grin changed from mischief to satisfaction as he looked out once again to his favorite of all sights to behold. Oh, the many times it had been him dumbfounded! He was filled with a self-righteous sense of accomplishment. It wasn’t everyday he could prove his beloved wrong.
