Yay! Here is the Morholt Crew height chart~ I like this chart for showcasing just how different in size and shape these characters are! I was thinking about why I like furries so much over the last few days. It's just so easy to identify with animals! No mater who they are you can compare anyone to an animal, so animal heroes are culturally universal! It's a big reason I enjoy drawing Galleon as much as I do!

Because I draw in a Japanese style, I'm always really self aware about what cultures I represent through it. I learned to draw hair straight and flowing and features really tiny. My art puts me at odds with my own ethnic orientation... Furries are the one place I never get that pressure. (It's not so bad these days, but I went through a whole weird emotional phase around that fact. ^^;)

In Galleon I can create my own cultures. The races are a division of size and metabolism, and the ethnicity is any person's animal type. What I dress them in is based on climate and whats available where they are. People are mostly made up of logical decisions really.

Bosun is from a reasonably cold climate, so he wears many layers of well constructed clothing. As a Badger he is reasonably self sufficient and prefers to keep to himself emotionally. He would be less social, but his mother was a swan and from her he learned to really appreciate the closeness of familial relationships.

Tanka is from a hot climate so she wears very little. Long thin pieces of leather pinned together by sturdy metal broaches. Where she lives is far more ravaged by brigands and wild beasts, so her people value metals for weapons and armor. Be careful not to stir her up into a frenzy she gets quite passionate! Being a bison makes her a bit shy, but amazingly strong.

Liyu is also from the desert, but a place where there is less in the way of shelter, so she wears shoulder and head protection. She is a desert local and her animal type is dragon, so you can imagine how hot she likes her baths >w<. Being a dragon makes her quite patient and wise, though she can often be a little self indulging. Though what she is wearing is only her traveling clothing, it is made of the finest silks and cottons, as her family is a royal line.

Haschen is a bunny. (Well a hare to be exact.) He is playful, agile and incredibly powerful for his size. He is a city kid and will wear whatever is trendy right now. Like most people who grew up street rats, he does what he can to survive and has as much fun as he can while he does it!

Like Haschen, Poppy was a street child and would wear whatever she could actually get her hands on. Since bosun took her in however, she always has a good pair of shoes and her clothes are kept in much better repair. Poppy is a rogue character with no orientation and has yet to develop herself, but much of who she is will come from the crew she see's as her family.

I more or less came up with these characters in a couple minutes of brainstorming with  corillion . Once we knew how many we wanted we said, Class, Race, Phenotype. Class often helps us know where they're from and what they've been up to till now- Race helps us know their body type - Phenotype helps us get an overview of their personality. After we did that, the Morholt story as much as wrote its self!
