If all goes as planned the finished version of this picture will be posted sometime tonight. I've been fortunate enough to meet a friend that works as a 3D graphic artist for a living. We spent a lot of time working on all of the tiny little specific details. I made sure to save each little bit of progress he showed me and figured those that are interested in how art is drawn might also be able to enjoy it as well.

We wanted a neutral expression since this picture will be used as a reference for a few other things. In the full picture the smile looks out of place. I wanted to see a more gruff/mean look but we were also worried people would think that's how the character was all of the time. Perhaps down the road he and I will work on this farther and add a few expressions in there and bring back the smile. =)
It was an attempt to create a unique and believable new culture, I tried very hard not to use anything from another tribal culture or time period so it could have its own unique feel. (I hope.) The closest thing I could think of that we used were some Mayan inspirations that probably show up mostly in the jade carvings. I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to be curious about the origins!
