Ok so I have finalized the design and also made a companion for him! His name is rook.
Here is a link to the original WIP submission: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10643707/
I changed the base because it looked a tad plain and really did not fit the overall design
well. Just to confirm with those who want to know; YES I will also be sculpting rook. ^^
Now here's a question: Should I open a kickstarter for this project? I would love to make
them available to more people and it would help me offset the costs of manufacturing them.
If Kickstarter is a good cause, what else should I offer? (besides my thanks and the kits...)
I just LOVE this fucking community. As usual you guys are the BEST in giving advice/information
and it is always, ALWAYS appreciated. ^^

If you're sculpting them by request, what would be the point of a Kickstarter?
Unless you're planning to mass produce them, but if so, you have no idea what the market for them would look like.
Personally, I'd make them by request until the requests get out of hand. Safer that way on both accounts.
Unless I'm misunderstanding how Kickstarter works.

Kickstarter works where you propose a project/idea and those who pledge or fund the project
gets rewards. The project itself is the reward. Truth is, it helps levitate the burden of start up
costs for running the whole project and money is only exchanged IF the it is successful. So
there really is no risk to it.
Though.... to make it plausible, creating a prototype is sort of required to show "proof" of a
project's existence.
And I DO want to mass produce them. Not by the thousands though. That's just silly. It'll also
help fund my other figure/statue projects.

i would not do a kickstarter. considering how many fans you have, there's no doubt that you'll be handmaking these for a long time when most of them pledge to get one. now, if you're wanting to get a 3D printer in the mix to minimize time on your part, then i would definitely go the route of a kickstarter.
Material for 3D printing is far more expensive than resin casting. Though I only NEED one prototype. XD
Well honestly, I do want to or HOPE that I can reach beyond the FA community with kickstarter. Who knows?!
All opinions will help in clarifying what would be the best route. ^^

I'd suggest making a mold out of it after you cast/fire it, then just use that to mass produce. And as far as kickstarters go, maybe? I'd set the minimum price to how much one of these would cost on their own, then as the price increase you'd offer something else (custom colors, Rook, handmade plush of one and/or both, stickers, badges, etc) that'd essentially be paying for these items to be created and sent to them through these pledge steps base on how far you want to go and how much you want to make in a certain time frame.
I'm really confused, are you and http://era-artwork.deviantart.com/gallery/ the same person?
Cause your 'PuPu' and her designs look identical.

I doubt it since Spear isn't selling these yet, plus, Spear's design is more refined and a tad bit more detailed compared to that one (definition of the wings, a longer curl in the head feathers, it actually has feet, etc).
The small round bird design is common if you just look for it. :P

CUTE! and no. Sorry. Not me. But just to clarify, I'll give a little background story of how this came to be:
My sister has 4 of these little fatties, 5 if one didn't fly away. I call them fatties my sister calls them her
little pupus and one day lulu (the mischievous instigator) was sleeping. Such a cute little thing all fluffed
up like a ball. We decided that that should be her (my sister) logo for her future designs. A cute little fatty.
So I was sketching up a few ideas and I just said "I want to sculpt this..." Then this happened.
The colors are just the more 'popular choice' among the cockatiels (next to pure white... but then that 'color'
choice would just be too plain and dull) and I just went with it. Everything else is purely coincidental to other
artists. I kept the design simple, animated and 'cute'. Makes it MUCH easier to sculpt this way.

I agree with the above, I think you have a good enough fanbase to just make them on demand rather than having to deal with kickstarter! c: That being said I would absolutely put my fundage behind Pupu AND Rook, birdies drive me wild! If you made plushies or anything of them too I'd of course love to get some of those as well~
A lot of the concerns expressed here have been about committing to too much work. It's kind of a no-brainer, but just keep the amount offered at each pledge level matched up with what you can create, and you'll be fine :) Let me know if you decide to launch the kickstarter, I'll be sure to do what I can to talk it up on my furry kickstarter blog.
