Not happy with this session as the clouds rolled in five minutes before sunset but there you go. That's what you get... tramp out over a mile of frozen lake at -15 (no wind thank the gods) and get slim pickings. Still, this shows the potential for tone and contrast in a winter setting.

-15 is nothing!!! Now -30 and below that's something and we've been down to -40 this winter.
Oh, are those two at it again? shakes head Silly, ol' mutts.
Get the sun low enough int he sky and there's texture everywhere. Blue, winter shadows on white snow where the sunlight isn't and the skylight is; all the graceful, curving lines that wind makes in powder! Nice one, ACat. :D
Yeah, -15's pretty chilly even without wind though. We had -31 last Sunday, but that was with windchill.

Thanks. Must get back out there and hammer at it. People will say that the winters are long, but getting the right conditions is rare and I need as many kicks at the can as I can. :D Thing is, whenever you fail technically (do wrong technical things, not shitty weather) that's one more time that you DON'T have to fail, you've got it out of the way! Day after day you can see the clouds roll in just before sunset though, and who's to say if I'll be able to photograph these snowdrifts in the right light...
