For me it depends, for most part I agree as a drawing almost per definition contains more symbolism and thus you'd be able to tell more about what the person relates to or tries to show you, but if a person is at least a bit capable at taking care of their appearance, you should also be able to see what kind of person someone is looking at a picture of them as well.
Though I agree, drawings contain more about someone's inside of their head, whereas photos contain more about someone's outside appearance o:
In either case it's a personal interpretation of what someone shows you though, careful not to judge someone based on their walking-vagina ponification of a hermaphrodite sergal-jelly-fetish embodiment in avatar form or something alike, I mean sure it's not very socially appropriate perhaps, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're fucked up in the head, just that they're not very good at social communication :P I see that happen a lot in the fandom. (Although I suppose it's good that people are shown it's not really socially accepted to flaunt fetishes like that for this reason)
