A 'Mare': A witch that was turned into a demon horse at night feeding on/bringing dreams of misfourture, bad luck, or just in general nightmare. So yea, your Gran was right.
Why not put a nightmare into an anthro form and just make her fun? I'm naturally a sweet natured mare, but I do have my dark side and NightMare is that side.
