I know what you mean. I have friends who are sort of the same, some giggle at my drawings, because a character with muscle looks "silly" to them. He'll j ad one person try to change my character in game (it was a role play) from a bodybuilder to a model.

I loved both those human hunk drawings. I'm not particularly fond of the latin guy, but he was still amazingly drawn.

No disrespect meant to your friends but if they're going to be pointing fingers and going on and on about Realistic form, of the human body they better freaking be sketching live nudes in the realistic style of art. Otherwise in my opinion they can go take their hypocritical criticisms elsewhere. Also unless they can do better then than you which I seriously doubt then they've got no room to talk.

I totally understand what you mean. It gets me frustrated when I go on websites like e621 and see all these comments that talk about how the artist doesn't know anything about anatomy and that they overall suck as a person because of it.

But in the end it's like dose it really matter if the anatomy is right or not? I mean it's never 100% right in my opinion, and that's not bad at all

There is some truth to that! Exaggeration of limbs and features helps convey what you want to the viewer better, though like everything else there is a fine line between 'interesting use of proportions' and 'they have no idea how to draw'

Anime style is good, but too many people use it as a crutch to hold on to. Set styles are good for getting off the ground and finding your own, though I guess thats a given really.

I never gave a damn what my style compared to others. Unless I'm calling the shots, mostly because typically your style won't fit in a tight box like they're trying to jam themselves into.

i hate that some people cannot accept that everyone can have different tastes. I don't care if a certain anatomy isn't your cup of tea, but it doesn't make your preference the best one.

i personally can't stand the super stick figure variation of anime, on both males and females it looks weird, and yes they attach coconuts to these small female frames and it just looks disturbing.

and the dudes just look like flat chested girls.

that doesn't mean i can't appreciate a well drawn piece in that style, my preference simply does not lie there but i believe art should be judged using a much higher criteria that is well beyond preference.

Not everyone likes a given style. This kind of commentary isn't very valid. Arguably both styles are unrealistic expectations for human proportion in reality, but ultimately, art is about idealizing form. And as we know, ideals differ from one person to the next. Ultimately, more openness with regard to styles is a good point of view. This being said, horrendously skinny giant boobs/eyes lady is far less likely. Can you say back problems?
