Goodbye Hinckley Island,
Goodbye Pumas
Goodbye friends
As most of you know Confuzzled 2013 was the very last convention at the Hinckley Island Hotel, and the email received from them today brought all that flooding back. I've been to cons all over the world, stayed in countless hotels but never have I been made to feel, liked, loved, and enjoyed as much as at the Hinckley.
The hotel itself is beautiful, all the staff we're polite, friendly, enthusiastic, hell they even bought their own shirts to wear for us this year! The staff liked to dance with us, chat with us, a few I chatted too requested every working hour they could during the convention just to be there and when we said we we're leaving, some of them honestly cried. They bent over backwards for us, they went above and beyond, and now, some may even be registering for Confuzzled 2014 as attendees.
I know why Confuzzled had to move, and they made the right choice, but I will always hold a candle in my heart for those good times shared at Hinckley , the hotel reminds me of a quote said of the famous race horse Mill Reef;
Though small, I gave my all. I gave my heart.

I'd love to see a few of the staff come to the new hotel if they can! We'd welcome them with open arms and probably a drink or two! <3
They've done an amazing job for both years they hosted it and did everything and more, including changing their policies and even offering drinks while queueing for reduced priced. Learned from mistakes the first year and just made this year absolutely incredible and the best year CF has ever had.

This is one of the few times a true man can shed tears. You were my first venue for Confuzzled and it is truly saddening to depart your wondrous halls and rooms. Your staff were the greatest and when that internal incident happened last year, you did not let that spike deflate your happiness. Those wanting to relive those memories will be back soon.

This is an incredibly moving tribute to them and I have taken a screen grab and sent them details. I am sure that they will absolutely thank you back from the bottom of their hearts for such a warming appreciation of their efforts. It was without doubt one of the hardest decisions ever to make, and the meeting I had when having to deliver this news was crushing to me, as they do not only become business contacts, but after so many visits and conversations, they become my friends.
I sincerely hope that many of them will take up the invite to come along for the fursuit parade and evening dances next year. Even better, I sincerely hope some of them will register and come along as guests!

When I checked out, the lady that helped me told me that she heard we wouldn't be coming back next year and that she was very sad by that. She added something after which made me very happy. She sad that she would grab everyone and come to visit us one night... I told her she should really do that and keep in contact with the venue liaison! She said she would...
The Hinckley was an awesome place! It combined social aspects with conference space and it made it all awesome! I will miss the place, but I will now look forward to seeing what we can do in our new home. The future has a lot in store.

Not only bent over backwards but one guy even did a backflip for us of we brought a beer!! One woman even brought some stickers off me (bless her) im really scared that the hilton staff will not nearly be as friendly and accomidating. Heck just a side note but wasnt most of the ladies and gents serving us absolutely gorgeous. Eye candy yay! I just wana take them all with us!!
Wow, you've put into words exactly how I feel too. I was really touched by how much the staff did for us, especially wearing (and enjoying wearing) those t-shirts :P
It's particularly sad for me because I live in Leicester and Hinckley is the first large town just down the road from me... it's like the con came to my home and now it's leaving :(
I was so proud when the staff got a standing ovation at the closing ceremony, they deserved it :')

See now if I only hotel staff at cons over here could be that awesome! I've met some nice staff, a gentleman manager at FWA in March expressed his gratitude at how well things went and thanked everyone for being there and when he found out it was my very first visit to Atlanta, he took time out to tell me about the hotel and stuff around the hotel. It was my best con hotel staff experience ever since I started going to cons. It really makes you feel welcome. It bothers me when hotel staff just looks at us like it's business for them.
I couldn't agree with this any more. It is sad we have to leave them, and it's not their fault that we're just getting bigger! :( The staff where truly awesome, even more so the bar staff who did a all-nighter with us one night and danced with us for hours. They where all brilliant and super-friendly and truly accepted our madness. I really hope that the staff in the Hilton Birmingham Metropole will be just as awesome!
The hotel was picturesque, well maintained and the staff were always happy and helpful and felt like a really nice place to stay, it warm and welcoming and it wasnt too big and yet didnt feel claustrophobic. So many happy memories and in all of the CFs the hincely island made more of a impact than any other.
